IKEA’s U.S. product page lists it for $19.99, while eBay prices reported in February 2026 were asking prices—not confirmed sale prices. A later individual listing at $54.99 is also only an asking price, not a reliable measure of the toy’s current value.
Which IKEA plush does Punch have?
It is the DJUNGELSKOG soft toy, orangutan, IKEA product number 104.028.41. IKEA’s U.S. page lists the toy at $19.99. The page specifies a height of 14 1/4 inches, polyester fabric and hollow-fiber filling described as 100% recycled, machine-wash care, and a recommended age of 18 months and older. The hands and feet have touch-and-close fasteners. See IKEA’s product listing.
The $19.99 price is the U.S. listing; it does not establish the price or availability in other countries. IKEA’s page checks availability by location, so shoppers should select their local store or delivery area rather than assume the toy is in stock everywhere.
Why did the orangutan plush become associated with Punch?
News reports identify Punch as a baby macaque at Ichikawa City Zoo in Japan who was hand-reared after being abandoned by his mother. They report that zoo staff tried rolled towels and other stuffed animals before settling on the IKEA orangutan plush as a comfort companion. These details come from media coverage of the zoo; the zoo page linked in that coverage did not itself provide the account. Gizmodo and Global News covered the story.

Images and coverage spread widely in February 2026. At that time, IKEA Singapore told Marketing-Interactive that the DJUNGELSKOG orangutan had sold out across its online and physical stores. That was a Singapore-specific report from that period, not confirmation of a current or worldwide stockout. Marketing-Interactive’s report also quoted an IKEA spokesperson: “At IKEA, we believe in creating a better everyday life for the many and sometimes, that starts with something as simple as a soft hug. While moments like these are never planned, we see them as a reflection of how our products live beyond the showroom and become part of people’s (and sometimes even primates’) stories.”
What were the eBay prices—and were those toys actually sold?
The widely repeated “hundreds of dollars” figures were snapshots of eBay asking prices in February 2026. They do not show what a buyer paid, and the reports were made on different dates. One individual eBay listing later showed $54.99; that too was an asking price, not evidence of a typical market price or a completed sale.

These figures are not a like-for-like price series: the listings were observed on different dates and may differ in condition, size, seller, shipping cost, or purchase format. An asking price is what a seller wants, not proof of what the item is worth. The official U.S. IKEA list price and third-party resale asks should not be treated as equivalent.

What the viral attention figures do—and don’t—mean
Marketing-Interactive reported CARMA measurements of 16.5K mentions and 2.2 million engagements for the week of February 16–23, 2026, as well as a 57.6% positive and 2.7% negative sentiment reading.
