Morgan Stanley’s Top Swiss Watch Brands for 2025, Analyzed

Morgan Stanley and LuxeConsult’s 2025 Swiss watch estimates show a contracting export market and rising concentration at the luxury end, but the full top-50 order is not verifiable from accessible coverage.

Morgan Stanley and LuxeConsult’s 2025 Swiss Watcher is a ranking of estimated commercial scale—not a guide to the best-made watches. Its 2025 figures point to a contracting export market, a concentration of value among a few luxury names, and a high-end segment that matters far more by value than by volume. The report was published in 2026, and accessible coverage does not provide a consistently readable, verifiable ranking of all 50 brands.

What the 2025 ranking measures

The ninth annual Morgan Stanley/LuxeConsult Swiss Watcher estimates sales and market performance for 50 leading brands in the Swiss watch market for reporting year 2025. It is an industry estimate, not an audited set of brand accounts or a consumer ranking of craftsmanship. The report’s scope is the Swiss watch market; it need not mean every included brand is headquartered in Switzerland.

Coverage describes a method that combines public information—such as listed-group accounts and Swiss export statistics—with LuxeConsult estimates informed by distribution networks, average prices, executive statements, and other industry information. Many watchmakers do not publish standalone accounts, so brand-level figures should be attributed to Morgan Stanley/LuxeConsult and treated as estimates. INSIGHT LUXURY’s report coverage and Orologi.it’s Swiss Watcher summary describe the report’s basis.

Turnover, retail market share, units, and implied average selling price answer different questions. Turnover and share indicate estimated commercial scale; units indicate volume; average selling price suggests price positioning. None establishes quality, value for an individual buyer, or investment potential.

The market contracted, but export and retail values are different

Swiss watch exports fell 1.7% in value in 2025, the second consecutive annual contraction described in the coverage. The Hour Markers reports estimated export value of CHF 24.4 billion and 14.6 million exported watches, down 4.8% in volume. Those are export measures, not the value of watches sold to consumers worldwide. The same coverage puts estimated global retail value at about CHF 49 billion; it should not be compared as if it were another export figure. The Hour Markers’ 2025 industry analysis and Orologi.it’s account report these market figures.

Rolex leads; precise ranks below it need caution

Rolex is the clear leader in accessible report coverage. INSIGHT LUXURY reports Morgan Stanley/LuxeConsult estimated wholesale sales above CHF 11 billion. The Hour Markers separately gives Rolex an estimated 32.9% retail share. Wholesale sales and retail share have different definitions; neither figure is an audited brand disclosure.

Cartier appears second in INSIGHT LUXURY’s account, with an estimated 8.7% market share. The Hour Markers’ top-ten summary also lists Cartier at 8.7%, alongside the following estimated retail shares:

Brand as listed by The Hour Markers Estimated retail share
Rolex 32.9%
Cartier 8.7%
Patek Philippe 7.0%
Omega 6.4%
Audemars Piguet 5.6%
Richard Mille 3.6%
Longines 3.1%
Vacheron Constantin 2.4%
Tissot 2.4%
Breitling 2.3%

This is a list of that source’s reported shares, not a definitive rank sequence. The page’s table places Patek Philippe third, Omega fourth, and Audemars Piguet fifth, while its surrounding prose describes Audemars Piguet rising to third, Patek Philippe fourth, and Omega falling to fifth. INSIGHT LUXURY also places Omega fifth, behind Audemars Piguet and Patek Philippe. Because the descriptions conflict, the exact ordering should not be treated as settled without a readable original table. The Hour Markers’ summary and INSIGHT LUXURY’s account show the discrepancy.

Value is concentrating at the luxury end

One estimate reported by INSIGHT LUXURY assigns 49.1% of market share to Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, and Richard Mille together, a 2.2 percentage-point increase. Other coverage describes different four-brand groupings or a share above 50%, so the 49.1% figure belongs specifically to that source’s named group and measure; it should not be generalized into a single uncontested “top four” result.

The price-segment figures underline the difference between revenue and unit volume. Watches priced above CHF 50,000 are reported to account for about 37% of 2025 export value but just 1.4% of export volume. INSIGHT LUXURY further reports that this segment generated 89% of total growth. These are report-derived estimates, not a claim that most watches sold were priced above that threshold. INSIGHT LUXURY’s analysis and The Hour Markers’ coverage discuss the high-price segment.

Brand changes show mixed fortunes

Selected brand estimates reported by INSIGHT LUXURY show that a large market position does not prevent a difficult year for every name:

  • Longines: estimated turnover of CHF 920 million, down 18%, falling below the CHF 1 billion threshold.
  • Omega: estimated sales down 8%.
  • Swatch Group: reported share of 16.1%, down 2.16 percentage points.

These figures describe different measures—brand turnover, brand sales, and group share—and should not be read as interchangeable. ARMBANDUHREN’s February 2026 coverage identifies further estimated declines of at least 15% for Swatch, Hamilton, Blancpain, Breguet, Girard-Perregaux, Franck Muller, Panerai, Roger Dubuis, and Zenith. It also lists Frederique Constant at rank 35 and Raymond Weil at rank 39. Those are selected secondary-source claims rather than a complete, verified ranking table. ARMBANDUHREN’s account provides that coverage.

Why there is no reliable full top-50 list here

Accessible coverage identifies some movement in the list, including Christopher Ward at rank 48, and another report says Christopher Ward and Bell & Ross entered, replacing Parmigiani Fleurier and Baume & Mercier. But the available pages show selected names and table images rather than a consistently readable original table. The rank-48 mention does not establish the positions of all other brands, and conflicting descriptions of leading ranks make a reconstructed list especially risky. webChronos’ coverage discusses report scope and market polarization.

For readers comparing watchmakers as businesses, the defensible takeaway is therefore about scale and direction, not a precise ordering of all 50. The ranking is useful for understanding estimated commercial weight; it is not enough to rank watch quality or make a purchase decision.

What the figures mean for a watch buyer

A brand’s estimated market share can explain its reach, but it cannot tell you whether a particular watch fits your budget, needs, or taste. For a buyer, compare the actual model’s price, specifications, servicing arrangements, and resale considerations separately. Tissot appears in The Hour Markers’ accessible top-ten share summary, but that position is not an endorsement of any specific Tissot watch.
