What Happens to Blast ETH, USDB, and LSTs When Blast Shuts Down?

Blast plans to pause withdrawals while it withdraws Lido assets, then resume with a 24-hour delay. Here is what the announced wind-down means for ETH, USDB, wrappers, and external LST positions.

Blast says users should withdraw assets to Ethereum mainnet as it winds down its Layer 2. The announced plan is to pause withdrawals for about a week while Blast withdraws its Lido assets, then resume them with a 24-hour delay. The normal interface is planned to remain available through October 26, 2026; after that, users are expected to withdraw by interacting directly with Blast bridge contracts on Ethereum. Those are announced plans, not a guarantee about the timing or outcome for any individual balance.

What Blast has announced—and when

Blast announced its wind-down on October 2, 2026. In the project notice, Blast said the cost of maintaining the chain exceeds the revenue the Layer 2 generates and that it sees no credible path to economic sustainability. The notice asks users to move assets to Ethereum mainnet, including balances held in the Blast PWA. The reproduced notice and The Block’s October 2 report describe the same withdrawal plan.

  1. First, a planned pause: Blast says it will withdraw its Lido assets. Withdrawals are expected to be unavailable for approximately one week during this stage. The notice does not give exact start or end times.
  2. After that stage: Withdrawals are expected to resume with a 24-hour delay.
  3. Through October 26, 2026: The notice says users can use the regular Blast interface.
  4. After October 26: The announced route is direct interaction with Blast bridge contracts on Ethereum. Blast said further instructions would be published before then; the retrieved notice and coverage do not include those contract-interaction steps.

Because the pause’s exact timing is not specified, check the Blast bridge and current official instructions before attempting a withdrawal. A separate testnet bridge guide describes an approximately seven-day withdrawal process for that testnet; it is not the shutdown-specific mainnet schedule and does not replace the announced pause and subsequent 24-hour delay.

What the plan means for each kind of asset

Asset or position What Blast documents What to check before exiting
ETH held on Blast Blast describes ETH on Blast as rebasing, with yield linked to Ethereum staking and initially to Lido. The shutdown notice describes a withdrawal route to Ethereum. Check whether the ETH is in your wallet or deposited in another protocol. The general withdrawal plan does not promise a specific amount or arrival time for an individual balance.
USDB held on Blast Blast describes USDB as an auto-rebasing stablecoin that can be redeemed for DAI when bridging back to Ethereum. If USDB is deposited in a lending market, pool, vault, or other contract, determine how to withdraw it from that protocol first. The project-level redemption description does not say that a separate position is automatically unwound.
Blast-native wrappers, including nrETH and nrUSDB Blast’s developer guide describes these as non-rebasing wrappers that can be unwrapped to WETH and USDB, respectively. Confirm the token and its contract, and whether it is held directly or inside another protocol. The wrapper documentation describes a specific mechanism, not a universal shutdown route for all LSTs.
External LSTs or protocol-held positions The shutdown notice does not enumerate withdrawal routes for each third-party liquid staking token or DeFi position. Identify the exact token, contract, and protocol holding it. Its exit may require a protocol-specific withdrawal or redemption before bridging to Ethereum.

Blast ETH

Blast’s general description links yield on ETH held on Blast to Ethereum staking, initially through Lido. The announced week-long pause is the project’s Lido-asset withdrawal stage; it should not be read as a promise that every wallet balance will be available at a particular hour or return an identical amount.

USDB

Blast says USDB can be redeemed for DAI when bridging back to Ethereum. That describes the token’s bridge-and-redemption model, not what happens automatically to USDB used as collateral, supplied to a market, or placed in a liquidity pool. Follow the relevant protocol’s exit route for those positions.

LSTs and wrappers

“LST” can refer to distinct tokens and positions. Blast’s documentation gives a specific unwrap path for its nrETH and nrUSDB wrappers, while the shutdown notice discusses Blast withdrawing its Lido assets. Neither statement establishes an automatic redemption route for every user-held stETH, wstETH, other external LST, or staking position. Check the precise asset and the contract or application holding it.

How to prepare for a withdrawal

  1. Locate the balance. Check your Blast wallet and any Blast PWA balance, then review dapps where you may have supplied, staked, borrowed against, or pooled assets. The notice explicitly includes PWA balances, but does not provide a separate unwind procedure for every dapp.
  2. Identify what you actually hold. Distinguish ETH, USDB, documented Blast wrappers such as nrETH or nrUSDB, external LSTs, and protocol receipt tokens. A position shown in an application may need to be withdrawn or unwrapped before it becomes an asset the bridge can handle.
  3. Check the applicable window and route. Account for the announced temporary pause and later 24-hour delay. Before the stated October 26 interface deadline, the notice points to the regular interface; afterward, it points to direct Ethereum bridge-contract interaction.
  4. Use the official instructions for the exact route. The post-deadline contract instructions are not included in the available notice. Do not infer a contract address, transaction sequence, or protocol-specific exit from the general announcement; confirm current instructions before signing a transaction.
