Union Bank of India advertised 1,500 Local Bank Officer vacancies in Junior Management Grade Scale-I (JMGS-I). What were the eligibility requirements?
These are the criteria in the 2024 notification, not confirmed requirements for any future recruitment cycle.
- Age: 20 to 30 years as of 1 October 2024. The notice provided upper-age relaxation of five years for SC/ST applicants, three years for OBC non-creamy-layer applicants and ten years for eligible persons with benchmark disabilities, along with other conditions specified in the notification.
- Education: A full-time or regular bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognized university or institution. The candidate had to have graduated by 13 November 2024.
- Language and state: Proficiency in the chosen state’s specified language in reading, writing and speaking; only one state could be selected.
How was selection expected to work?
The notification described an online examination and said the bank could also use a group discussion, application screening and/or a personal interview. These additional stages were conditional: the bank reserved discretion to use some or all selection methods depending on the number of applications and eligible candidates. The stated online-examination duration was 3 hours 30 minutes. Later notices and candidate-specific communications determine which stages applied in practice; the bank’s recruitment listing includes later-stage material, such as examination, document-verification and language-proficiency information, interview shortlists and provisionally selected candidates.

What service terms applied to selected candidates?
The notice set a two-year probation period. Selected candidates also had to undertake to serve the bank for at least three years; leaving before completing three years of active service meant paying ₹2,00,000 plus applicable taxes under the stated bond terms. The notice said postings would remain within the chosen state for the first ten years or until promotion to SMGS IV, whichever came first.
