The company attributed the 150 cuts to reduced support needs after improvements to its platform and customer experience, while also acknowledging that AI was embedded in its contact form to help customers self-serve. Reporting later identified 200 additional European support cuts in September, bringing the reported total for the two rounds to 350.
Did Atlassian cut customer service jobs because of AI?
Atlassian denied that AI directly replaced the workers affected by the July 2025 cuts. Its stated explanation was that platform and customer-experience improvements had reduced the need for customer support. The company also said customers could use AI-enabled self-service through its contact form. Those points can coexist: Atlassian denied direct replacement but acknowledged AI was part of a support channel.
ITPro quoted Atlassian as saying, “While we’re proud of this momentum, it leaves us with more capacity than needed to deliver strong customer support,” and that customers could “self-service through the embedding of AI in our contact form, but it’s primarily because our customers need less help with the product.” ITPro reported the statement on August 1, 2025. Cyber Daily likewise quoted the company saying improvements across its platform and tools had resulted in a “significant reduction in support needs” in its July 31, 2025 report.
These are Atlassian’s explanations, not an independent measurement of what caused the redundancies. The cited coverage does not quantify AI’s contribution to reduced support demand, identify which tasks were automated, report how often customers resolved issues through AI, or establish how many roles—if any—were directly replaced by AI. It also does not provide an individually attributed statement from CEO Mike Cannon-Brookes explaining the rationale; the company statements should not be recast as his personal remarks.

How many Atlassian support jobs were cut in 2025?
The reported figures cover two distinct rounds. They are news-reported company-event counts, not independently audited labor statistics.
| Round | Reported cuts | Geography and source |
|---|---|---|
| July 2025 | 150 customer service and support roles | Global; ITPro and Cyber Daily reported affected workers in Australia, Canada, Germany, India, the UK and the US. Cyber Daily specifically confirmed Australian employees were affected. |
| September 2025 | 200 additional customer service and support roles | Europe; reported by CX Dive. |
| Both rounds | 350 reported cuts in total | Cumulative figure reported by CX Dive for the July and September rounds. |
CX Dive reported the further 200 European cuts and cumulative 350 figure on September 10, 2025. ITPro described Atlassian as having a global workforce of 12,000 at the time of its July coverage; that is contemporaneous context reported by ITPro, not a separately verified denominator.

What did Atlassian say caused the cuts?
The company’s stated rationale was that improvements to its platform and customer experience meant customers needed less help, leaving it with more support capacity than required. It also described AI in the contact form as a way for customers to self-serve. The available reporting does not establish an independent causal breakdown that separates the effect of product improvements from the effect of AI or other factors.

Atlassian’s fiscal 2026 restructuring disclosures describe separate, later actions, including a restructuring plan affecting approximately 10% of its workforce. Those disclosures concern a different period and must not be added to the 350 reported customer service and support cuts from July and September 2025. Atlassian’s Form 10-K for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2026 provides the later restructuring context.
