KDnuggets’ June 1, 2022 directory listed 18 LinkedIn groups spanning data science, AI, machine learning, Python, analytics, business analysis, careers and Women in Data Science. Its member counts are historical figures reported in that article—not current totals. Check each LinkedIn page for its current name, activity, access and rules before joining.
What this list tells you—and what it doesn’t
The directory below preserves the names and membership figures reported by Abid Ali Awan in KDnuggets’ June 1, 2022 article, “Top 18 Data Science Groups on LinkedIn”. The source gives no separate measurement date, so the counts should be read as figures reported in the 2022 article, not as current LinkedIn membership.
The list is ordered by those reported counts. Membership size is a measure of reported scale, not proof of discussion quality or a group’s value for learning, hiring or career outcomes. The article does not provide measured evidence for those outcomes. Nor does this directory verify whether any of the 18 groups still exists, uses the same name, accepts members or remains active.

How to choose a group that fits
Start with the subject you want to discuss rather than the largest figure in the table. The names indicate different emphases: broad data science and AI; Python, machine learning and natural language processing; analytics and visualization; business analysis and careers; or a women-in-data-science community. Treat those as clues from the reported names, not guarantees of a group’s current focus.
- Match the topic: Look for recent posts that address the skills or questions you care about.
- Check the audience and discussion: See whether members share substantive questions, explanations or resources, rather than judging by the headline count alone.
- Read rules and access requirements: Review moderation, posting expectations and any membership questions before applying.
- Allow for approval time: KDnuggets’ 2022 article said approval could take up to a month for some groups. That is a dated observation, not a current timeline for every group.
Awan, identified in the article as KDnuggets Assistant Editor, described LinkedIn groups as “a learning place for beginners, a commonplace to share ideas, ask for guidance, and build valuable connections.” That is the author’s characterization, not evidence that membership produces particular learning or career results.

Check LinkedIn before you join
Because the directory dates to 2022, search for each name directly on LinkedIn and inspect the group page before applying. Confirm that the page is the intended group, check when it was last active, and review its current membership availability and rules. A later 2026 directory has its own selection criteria and scope; it does not establish the present status or counts of these 18 entries.
