Amazon CEO Andy Jassy called the October 7, 2023 attacks on civilians in Israel “shocking and painful to watch.” In a LinkedIn post published in the immediate aftermath, he said Amazon was checking on employees in Israel and would support humanitarian relief partners. A GeekWire report dated October 10, 2023, also described employee assistance and company donations being organized at that time.
What Andy Jassy said
Jassy wrote on LinkedIn after the October 7 attacks: “The attacks against civilians in Israel are shocking and painful to watch. I have been in touch with our teammates there to make sure we do everything we can to help support their family’s and their safety, and to assist however we can in this very difficult time. We’re also in close contact with our humanitarian relief partners on the ground and will be supporting their efforts. Hoping that peace arrives as soon as possible.”
The wording above preserves “family’s” as it appears in Jassy’s post. His statement described both concern for Amazon employees and a commitment to support humanitarian relief partners; it did not identify the partners or specify donation amounts.
What Amazon reported doing in October 2023
GeekWire’s October 10, 2023 report said Amazon was in touch with employees in Israel and providing individual support. It also reported that Amazon had created an internal page where employees could donate to humanitarian missions and had begun the process of making cash donations to international organizations operating in the area.
#1 Best Overall
The distinction matters: Jassy’s post stated the company’s public commitments, while GeekWire supplied additional operational details attributed to Amazon. The report does not establish which donation recipients were selected or how much was given for this response.
Amazon’s historical relief figures
GeekWire reported that Amazon’s website listed more than 23 million relief items donated since 2017 to support people affected by more than 108 disasters. Those are historical figures attributed to Amazon by GeekWire in October 2023, not independently verified totals or a measure of the company’s response to the Israel attacks.
