A missing NFT image in your wallet does not by itself mean the NFT is gone. First check the blockchain explorer for the correct address and network; that is how to verify whether the token is recorded at your address or whether a transfer is still pending. Wallet and marketplace apps can fail to show an asset because of account selection, display settings, indexing, metadata, or compatibility issues. MetaMask’s troubleshooting guide and OpenSea’s help page distinguish on-chain status from what an app displays.
1. Confirm the address and network
Check the receiving address, the wallet account currently selected in the app, and the network on which the NFT exists. Then search the address on a blockchain explorer for that network and inspect the NFT’s ownership or transfer record. A token recorded at a different address will not appear in the account you are viewing.
MetaMask recommends reviewing the account address or NFT contract on the block explorer and confirming that the transfer completed. If the NFT is not present in the relevant transfer records, contact the sender to confirm the destination address and transfer status. MetaMask: How to view and manage NFTs in MetaMask.
2. Check whether the transfer completed
If the NFT was sent recently, look up the transaction hash on the explorer and check its status. A pending transaction has not yet completed; a successful transaction should have a corresponding record. OpenSea notes that network congestion can delay transactions, but its guidance does not establish a universal wait time. MetaMask’s transfer guidance and OpenSea’s profile troubleshooting can help interpret what you are seeing.

3. If the explorer shows ownership, troubleshoot the wallet display
When the explorer shows the NFT at the address but the wallet does not, focus on the wallet’s display and compatibility rather than assuming the token has disappeared. Wallet-specific steps differ, so use the official guidance for the app you use.
MetaMask: check display settings or import a supported NFT
In MetaMask, confirm that NFT display or autodetection is enabled. If autodetection has not found the asset, MetaMask documents manual import by selecting the NFT’s network and entering its contract address and token ID. MetaMask says it can add ERC-721 and ERC-1155 NFTs, though display can still vary depending on available third-party data. These instructions apply to MetaMask and are not a universal import procedure for other wallets. MetaMask: How to view and manage NFTs in MetaMask.

Allow for indexing or metadata problems
An app may not have indexed the NFT yet, or it may lack access to the metadata needed to show the image or other content. MetaMask Portfolio identifies both indexing delays and metadata access as factors in NFT display. In that situation, the ownership record can exist even when the image or listing is missing or incomplete. MetaMask Portfolio: Why is my NFT not showing in MetaMask Portfolio?
Check token-type and wallet compatibility
Not every wallet displays every NFT format. Coinbase Wallet, for example, says it does not support certain OpenSea lazy-minted ERC-1155 NFTs and some off-chain NFTs. That is a Coinbase Wallet-specific limitation, not a general rule for every Coinbase asset or every wallet. Coinbase Wallet: NFT troubleshooting.

4. If a marketplace profile is blank, check its account and Hidden area
Make sure the marketplace is connected to the wallet address that owns the NFT. On OpenSea, also check the Hidden items area. An item may be hidden or delisted on a marketplace while still existing on-chain; marketplace visibility and wallet ownership are separate questions. OpenSea explains that it may delist an item from its service without changing its blockchain record. OpenSea: Why can’t I see my NFTs in my profile? and OpenSea: What is a hidden NFT?.
5. Treat unexpected NFTs as a safety risk
Blockchains can allow someone to transfer a token to your wallet without your buying or accepting it. OpenSea warns that unsolicited NFTs may be used to lure people to malicious links. Do not click links or visit websites promoted by an unexpected NFT, and do not connect your wallet to a site just to investigate the item. OpenSea’s guidance on hidden NFTs.

6. When to contact wallet support
If the explorer confirms ownership but the wallet still does not display the NFT after you check the account, network, and app settings, contact the wallet’s official support channel. Keep the transaction hash, network, contract address, and token ID available so support can identify the asset. There is no single recovery procedure that applies to every wallet, chain, contract, or token format; a display problem is not evidence that a purchase or hardware product can restore ownership.
