On July 25, 2025, the average U.S. 30-year fixed conforming mortgage rate was 6.729%, according to a daily report from Fortune citing Optimal Blue data. Freddie Mac’s nearby weekly benchmark, released July 24, was 6.74% for a 30-year fixed mortgage and 5.87% for a 15-year fixed mortgage. These figures come from different sources and reporting periods, so they are not competing readings of one identical measure—and neither is a personal rate offer.
Mortgage rates reported around July 25, 2025
| Measure | Rate | Observation period | Source and scope |
|---|---|---|---|
| 30-year fixed conforming | 6.729% | Daily, July 25, 2025 | Fortune, citing Optimal Blue data |
| 30-year fixed | 6.74% | Weekly, released July 24, 2025 | Freddie Mac Primary Mortgage Market Survey (PMMS) |
| 15-year fixed | 5.87% | Weekly, released July 24, 2025 | Freddie Mac PMMS |
| 30-year fixed | 6.72% | Monthly average for July 2025 | FHFA’s July 2025 report, citing Freddie Mac PMMS monthly data |
Why the daily and weekly figures differ
The 6.729% figure is a daily rate reading for July 25; Freddie Mac’s 6.74% is a weekly survey result released the day before. The publishers, methods and observation windows differ. It is more accurate to keep both figures with their source and date than to combine them into a single exact rate for July 25.
Freddie Mac describes PMMS as covering conventional, conforming, fully amortizing home-purchase loans for borrowers with excellent credit who put 20% down. That profile is a defined benchmark, not a prediction of the rate any particular borrower would receive. The cited averages do not state a personalized APR, points, lender fees or an individual rate-lock offer.
How the rates fit into July 2025
FHFA’s later monthly report put the July 2025 average 30-year fixed mortgage rate at 6.72%, down from 6.82% in June. That is a monthly context figure, not another reading for July 25. The report also said total refinance volume decreased in July as mortgage rates had remained elevated in June.

When comparing published rates, first check what each number measures:
Rank #2
- Ideal for Gifting
- Ideal for a bookworm
- Compact for travelling
- Observation period: daily, weekly or monthly.
- Loan type and term: for example, a 15- or 30-year fixed loan, and conventional, government-backed, conforming or jumbo financing.
- Publisher and methodology: different data sources may use different samples and reporting methods.
- Borrower and loan details: credit profile, down payment, property, loan size, points, fees and lock terms can affect an actual offer.
For a decision about borrowing, compare personalized Loan Estimates rather than treating a market average as a quote. Review APR, points, fees, loan type and rate-lock terms together.
