In January 2024, MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell said Fox News had canceled the company’s advertising and stopped airing its commercials. Fox’s public response was that it would accept MyPillow ads once the company paid its account. Lindell acknowledged that MyPillow owed Fox money, putting the balance at $7.8 million, but said it was within the credit line Fox had extended. The reports documented ads no longer appearing; they did not establish the contract terms, Fox’s motive, or whether the advertising relationship ended permanently.

What happened between MyPillow and Fox News?

On January 12, 2024, Lindell told Steve Bannon on Real America’s Voice, “Fox News has canceled MyPillow, and I don’t have the reasons why yet.” He said he could only speculate about the reasons, mentioning the Iowa caucuses and his hiring of former Fox host Lou Dobbs for Lindell TV. Those were Lindell’s theories, not established explanations for the stoppage.

Fox spokeswoman Irena Briganti gave a different account of the immediate issue: “As soon as their account is paid, we would be happy to accept their advertising,” she told The Associated Press. That statement made payment a condition for accepting ads; it did not say the company was permanently barred from advertising.

What was the reported debt?

Lindell acknowledged to the Associated Press that MyPillow owed Fox money. He put the balance at $7.8 million and said it fell within the credit line Fox had extended. The AP did not independently verify the balance or the credit terms, so both the amount and the explanation of the credit arrangement remain Lindell’s account.

Lindell also estimated that MyPillow had spent an average of about $1 million per week on Fox over the long term. Separately, iSpot.tv data provided to The Washington Post indicated approximately 6,500 MyPillow ads on Fox in 2023, with an estimated value of $65.2 million. Those are reported advertising estimates, not audited revenue figures.

When did MyPillow ads stop appearing?

The Washington Post reported that it found no MyPillow ads on Fox during January 2024. The last appearance it identified was December 18, 2023, when three ads ran. This establishes a reported interruption in the ads, not the precise terms or status of the parties’ advertising contract.

Was Fox retaliating against Lindell for political reasons?

Lindell speculated that politics could explain the timing, including the Iowa caucuses and his hiring of Dobbs. Fox’s spokeswoman instead publicly pointed to MyPillow’s unpaid account and said Fox would accept ads once it was paid. The available reporting does not independently establish Fox’s motive or resolve the competing explanations. It would therefore be inaccurate to present political retaliation as a proven cause.

How was the 2024 dispute different from the 2021 ad dispute?

The two episodes involved different circumstances. In 2021, Lindell said he was pulling ads after Fox declined a commercial promoting his planned cyber symposium. Fox said Lindell had chosen to pause his commercial time. That earlier disagreement should not be conflated with the 2024 payment dispute, in which Lindell acknowledged an unpaid balance and Fox said it would accept ads after payment.
