A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11To check whether a replacement laptop screen is compatible, match it to your laptop’s exact configuration and the original panel or manufacturer spare-part number—not just the screen size. Confirm the panel’s dimensions and mounting, interface and connector, display cable, resolution and refresh rate, and any documented electrical or feature requirements. The laptop maker’s service guide or parts listing is the best starting point.
1. Identify your laptop’s exact configuration
A model-family name is not always enough: the same family can ship with different panels and display cables. Find the full model, machine type and configuration or SKU from the laptop’s product label, system information, or purchase records. Then look up that specific configuration in the manufacturer’s parts listing or service guide.
Use the listing to identify supported panel and cable part numbers. Lenovo’s hardware maintenance documentation for specified LOQ 15 models is one example of model-specific service documentation; use the manual for your own device rather than assuming another model’s parts apply.
2. Find the original panel identifier
If the panel label is already accessible during a planned repair, record its complete manufacturer model number. Otherwise, use the laptop maker’s parts information for the exact configuration. Do not take apart a laptop solely to read the panel label if doing so would add unnecessary risk; the service listing may provide the needed part information.

Compare the full identifiers, not just a seller’s general “fits” claim. A documented equivalent or replacement part may have a different number, so verify it against the manufacturer’s parts data or a reliable listing tied to your exact laptop configuration.
3. Compare the panel and system requirements
Use this checklist for the original panel and the proposed replacement. A match on one item—especially diagonal size or pin count—does not establish compatibility by itself.

| What to check | What to confirm |
|---|---|
| Part identification | Panel model or OEM spare-part number, and documented fit for the exact laptop configuration. |
| Physical fit | Diagonal, width and height, thickness or form factor, mounting points, and bezel fit where applicable. |
| Interface and connector | Display interface, such as LVDS or eDP; connector type and location; and pin count. These details must match the system and cable, not merely look similar. |
| Display cable | Whether the existing cable is documented to support the proposed panel. Some panel-and-cable combinations are vendor-specific. |
| Display characteristics | Native resolution and refresh rate, plus brightness, finish, viewing characteristics, or other features important to the intended replacement. |
| Electrical requirements | Requirements such as input voltage and backlight type, when specified for the candidate panel. |
| Configuration-specific features | Touch or non-touch capability and any other functions included in the original display assembly. |
For two candidate panels, compare these same attributes side by side and prefer the one whose panel and cable combination is documented for your exact machine. Do not treat a higher pin count, resolution, or refresh rate as inherently better or compatible.
Why size and pin count are not enough
Service documentation shows how much configurations can differ. HP’s Pavilion Gaming 15 Maintenance and Service Guide lists distinct 15.6-inch UHD and FHD panel options, different eDP revisions and panel characteristics, and separate cable spare parts: L58775-001 for a 40-pin connector and L56912-001 for a 30-pin connector. These are options documented for that laptop family, not a universal compatibility chart; use the exact configuration and parts data for your own laptop. Read the HP service guide.

A separate service guide states that the eDP cable should be selected according to the panel vendor, illustrating why a panel and cable may need to be treated as a documented pair rather than interchangeable parts. See the service guide.
Replacing like for like versus upgrading
A like-for-like replacement is usually simpler to verify: match the original panel identifier or the manufacturer-listed replacement, then confirm its cable and physical fit. An upgrade to a different resolution or refresh rate needs separate evidence that the laptop’s hardware, cable and supported configuration can drive that panel.

For example, an iFixit guide for the specific HP ENVY 15 j100el describes a 15.6-inch slim/flat LVDS panel with a 40-pin connector, 60 Hz, 3.3 V and WLED backlight. It discusses changing from 1366×768 to 1920×1080 only when the hardware supports the upgrade. Those specifications and that conditional upgrade apply to the guide’s particular repair context, not to all 15.6-inch laptops. Read the HP ENVY 15 j100el guide.

- Use the service procedure for your exact laptop model; disassembly steps and risks vary by design.
- Disconnect the power adapter and battery before disassembly or handling the display cable, following the model’s service instructions.
- Before ordering, verify the seller’s compatibility evidence against the full laptop configuration and panel/cable requirements, and check the seller’s return terms.
The HP ENVY repair guide instructs users to remove the battery before handling the display cable. Follow your own laptop’s service documentation rather than treating another model’s repair steps as universal.
