There is no single reliable price for replacing a laptop screen: the exact model, display specifications, failed component, parts availability, and labor all affect the quote. One independent repairer in Erina, New South Wales, lists fitted replacements from AUD 180, with a recent high-spec gaming display example above AUD 900; those are local provider examples, not a national or global price range. For an accurate estimate, give a repairer your laptop’s full model number and display configuration.
What determines the cost of a laptop screen replacement?
A laptop does not use a universal screen. The replacement has to be compatible with the device’s model and display configuration, and the repair may involve more than the panel itself. Lenovo says cost varies with the laptop’s model, age, and damage severity. [Lenovo’s laptop repair guide]
- Panel specifications: Size, resolution, refresh rate, LCD versus OLED technology, and touch support can affect part cost. The Erina repairer says larger and higher-resolution panels, faster refresh rates, OLED, and touchscreen support can cost more in its examples; these are that provider’s observations, not universal pricing rules. [iFix Electronics Erina’s pricing examples]
- Availability and exact model: A commonly stocked panel may be easier to source than an unusual or older one. Verify the precise part and specifications before ordering.
- What failed: A repair could call for a panel, cable, backlight, or a complete display assembly. A black or flickering screen does not by itself prove the panel needs replacement; diagnosis should identify the fault first.
- Labor and logistics: The total may include diagnosis, installation labor, shipping, taxes, and related work such as a cable, bezel, or hinge repair. Provider policies differ, so a parts-only price is not comparable to a fitted quote.
Published price examples—and what they do and don’t tell you
iFix Electronics Erina, an independent repairer serving the Central Coast of New South Wales, updated its examples on July 24, 2026. Its figures are in Australian dollars and depend on the panel; they are not a U.S. average or a promise of what another shop will charge. [Provider’s published pricing]
| Example | What the provider states | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| Common laptop screen replacement | Starting at AUD 180 fitted | Provider-specific starting price; varies by panel. |
| Recent 16-inch QHD 240 Hz OLED gaming display | More than AUD 900 fitted | An example of a high-spec display, not a typical price. |
| Touchscreen support | AUD 80–150 additional, typically | This provider’s stated premium, not an industry-wide rate. |
The sources do not establish a reliable current U.S.-wide average. Mac owners should request an estimate for their particular model: Apple’s repair directory links to product-specific cost and coverage details but does not show a screen fee in the page opened here. [Apple repair options]

How to compare repair quotes
Ask for an itemized total rather than comparing a panel listing with a completed repair price. Use the same questions with each provider:
- What is the laptop’s exact model, and what is the replacement panel or assembly part number?
- Does the quote cover the LCD panel only, a touchscreen or digitizer, or a larger display assembly?
- What are the replacement’s resolution, refresh rate, display technology, and touch capability?
- Does the total include diagnosis, labor, tax, shipping, and any hinge, bezel, or cable work?
- What warranty covers the part and workmanship, and what exclusions apply?
- Is the part in stock, and what is the expected turnaround?
- If the screen is black or flickering rather than visibly cracked, what diagnosis confirms the panel is at fault?
When comparing options, consider the total price, part identity and specifications, warranty, fees, provider authorization and part provenance, and turnaround. Lenovo advises comparing providers; the available guidance does not establish that manufacturer-authorized service or an independent shop is always cheaper or better for every model. Manufacturer service, independent repair, or DIY?
Manufacturer or authorized service
Check the warranty and any accidental-damage coverage for your exact device and region before paying out of pocket. Dell says that without applicable Accidental Damage coverage, the owner is responsible for the full repair cost for a cracked or broken LCD, and directs owners to technical support. [Dell cracked-screen guidance]
Independent repair shop
Request a written breakdown of part, labor, diagnosis, shipping, and warranty terms. Check whether the shop is quoting a panel or complete assembly and whether it has the part in stock; warranty and service terms vary by provider and part.

Do-it-yourself replacement
DIY may reduce the service cost for someone with electronics experience, but a compatible part and model-specific instructions are essential. Lenovo warns that screens and connections are delicate, incorrect connections or screw tightening can cause problems, and amateur repair may affect warranty coverage. Review your model’s service instructions and warranty terms before opening the laptop. [Lenovo repair guidance]

Compare the complete repair quote with the laptop’s age, overall condition, and replacement value. A lower quote may make sense for a newer device in good condition; a costly assembly on an older laptop may be harder to justify. The available sources support this as a decision framework, but do not establish a universal repair-versus-replace price threshold.

If the screen is blank without visible damage, do not assume a screen replacement is the answer. Ask for diagnosis before approving parts: a black display can result from the panel or another hardware or software issue.
