Target’s Switch 2 Launch-Day Plan: Tickets In Store June 5, Online Sales June 6

Target announced limited in-store sales of the Nintendo Switch 2 on June 5, 2025, with shoppers told to queue at a designated entrance before their store opened and receive a ticket for the chance to buy. Target’s website and app were scheduled to begin sales early June 6, while supplies lasted. Those were launch-period arrangements, not a current stock update.

How Target handled in-store sales on June 5

Target’s May 29, 2025 announcement said customers could line up at the designated queuing location at each store entrance before opening. Team members would distribute physical or digital tickets reserving a product. Ticketing was to continue until all tickets were claimed or until 10 minutes before opening; ticket holders would then go to the electronics department to purchase and pick up their item. Target described the stock as limited. Target’s announcement

The company did not name a universal arrival time or promise that arriving early would secure a console. The practical implication of ticketing limited inventory is that shoppers who wanted a chance to buy had reason to arrive before opening, but the announcement did not guarantee a purchase.

What Target planned to sell, and the stated limit

Target said both the Nintendo Switch 2 console and the Nintendo Switch 2 + Mario Kart World Bundle would be available in stores. Its stated limit was “one product, per item, per guest” for the Switch 2 items listed in the announcement. That wording is a per-item limit, not a stated single-console total covering every product type.

When Target’s online sales were scheduled

Target’s online window was separate from its June 5 store sales: the console and the Mario Kart World bundle were scheduled to become available early the following morning, June 6, on Target.com and in the Target app, while supplies lasted. Target did not announce online ordering for June 5 in this launch notice. Target’s announcement

How Target’s plan differed from Best Buy’s

Best Buy announced a different walk-in approach for the June 5 launch: nearly all of its U.S. stores would open at 12:01 a.m. ET and have a limited number of consoles, games and accessories for walk-in customers. That midnight schedule was Best Buy’s announcement, not Target’s; Target described tickets at each store’s own opening time. Neither announcement should be read as a current retailer schedule. What the launch notice does—and does not—tell shoppers now

The Target and Best Buy details above concern June 2025. They do not establish whether a Switch 2 is in stock at Target today, what it currently costs, or when any future restock will happen. Check a retailer’s live product listing or contact the store for present availability rather than relying on the launch-day queue instructions.

Nintendo later reported that more than 3.5 million Switch 2 units sold worldwide in the four days after the June 5, 2025 release, which it said was the highest global first-four-day sales level for any Nintendo hardware at that time. That figure describes worldwide sales, not Target inventory or a present-day stock estimate. Nintendo’s June 11, 2025 sales announcement
