First, identify whether the withdrawal is still being reviewed, has been rejected, or was actually sent to your bank. Those are different stages, and the right next step depends on the broker’s legal entity, your location, account type, payment method, and the status shown in your account. Check the broker’s stated processing window before treating a delay as a missing payment.
Start by identifying the withdrawal’s status
Save the withdrawal confirmation and note the exact status shown in the broker’s account portal. A request that is pending has not necessarily been transmitted. “Approved” may mean the broker authorized it internally, while “sent” may refer to submission to a processor or transmission to a bank. Ask the broker which stage the status represents.
- Pending: Check the processing schedule for your payment method, including business days, cut-off times, weekends, and holidays. For example, IG says its bank withdrawals are processed on working days and that requests made after a cut-off, on a weekend, or on a public holiday may move to the next working day. That is IG-specific guidance, not a general deadline. IG Help Center: pending or delayed withdrawals.
- Rejected or partly paid: Find out the exact reason, how much was sent, and whether the remaining amount was returned to your account. A request can be rejected because of destination details or because the requested amount exceeds the withdrawable balance.
- Approved or sent, but not in your bank: Ask the broker for the transmission date, payment method, and bank transfer reference or trace. Give the matching reference to your receiving bank and ask it to search for the payment.
Keep the withdrawal ID, support ticket number, and any bank case number. Never share your password, full sign-in credentials, or one-time codes with someone claiming to trace a payment.
Check whether the money is eligible to withdraw
The balance available to trade is not necessarily the balance available to withdraw. Compare the request with the broker’s displayed withdrawable cash and review any pending settlement, margin requirement, fee, or open-transaction obligation shown in the account.

Settlement timing depends on the market and product. Zerodha, for example, describes T+1 settlement for the trades covered by its guidance and says unsettled trades and same-day deposits can prevent withdrawal in its system. It also says a request exceeding the available withdrawable amount may be paid only up to that amount. These are Zerodha-specific rules, not universal settlement terms. See Zerodha Support: rejected withdrawal requests.
Check verification and destination details
Confirm that the receiving account is verified and that its registered name and payment details match the broker’s requirements. Check the account number and the routing or bank identifier used in your country and currency. Look for a request for updated documents in the broker’s secure portal.
Broker help pages identify unverified accounts, mismatched names, incorrect or incomplete bank details, and a beneficiary bank’s refusal as possible reasons for a hold or rejection. See IG’s guidance on pending withdrawals, Zerodha’s guidance on rejected requests, and Axi’s withdrawal guidance.

If a linked card or bank account has expired, closed, or changed, ask the broker for its documented verification procedure before requesting a different destination. Do not assume the broker can send funds to any third-party account. IG UK describes additional checks for changed or expired cards and receiving accounts at IG: why a withdrawal was rejected.

Contact the broker through its official support channel and ask for the information needed to resolve the particular status. You can adapt this message:
“Please confirm the current processing stage of withdrawal [ID], the specific reason for the delay or rejection, any action or document required from me, and the payment reference or expected date of your next update. If it was rejected, please confirm whether the funds have returned to my account and what needs correcting.”

Include the withdrawal ID, amount and currency, submission date and time, payment method, and the destination account’s last few digits if the broker requests them. Do not send full account credentials. Keep a copy of your message, the response, and the ticket number.
Make a formal complaint if support does not resolve it
Write to the firm’s complaints address or follow its formal complaint process. Give a concise dated chronology, attach relevant records, and state the outcome you want—for example, payment, return of the funds to your account, correction of a transfer, or a reasoned decision. Retain proof that you submitted the complaint.
The UK Financial Conduct Authority advises consumers to contact the firm, explain what happened and when, ask it to put things right, and keep a record. The appropriate escalation route and deadlines depend on the entity that holds your account and your eligibility. Check the firm’s legal entity and the official complaint rules for your location before filing.

Use the escalation route that covers your account
A regulator, exchange, ombudsman, or dispute body may handle different issues and may offer different remedies. Confirm which body covers the broker’s legal entity, whether it handles investment-broker conduct, payment execution, or both, what time limits and eligibility rules apply, and what outcome it can provide. A complaint to a regulator may not itself order your payment.
United Kingdom
The FCA says firms generally must write with a complaint outcome within eight weeks. It separately describes payment-service or e-money complaints as normally receiving a response within 15 business days, with a final response within 35 business days. These are UK complaint-handling timelines, not deadlines for processing a broker withdrawal. The FCA says the Financial Ombudsman Service may help if a consumer is unhappy with the firm’s decision or receives no response in time. Check current details at FCA: how to complain.
India
SEBI’s Investor Charter describes a stock-exchange complaint route for broker complaints. Its listed stages include receipt on the complaint day, registration and forwarding at C+8 working days, an amicable resolution stage at T+15 working days, referral to the Grievance Redressal Committee at T+16 if unresolved, and completion after the committee at T+30 working days—or T+45 working days where more information is needed. These dates apply to the described Indian stock-exchange complaint process, not to withdrawal processing generally. Consult the SEBI Investor Charter and the relevant exchange for current procedures.

Keep records and recognize when the problem is different
Preserve the broker statement or ledger showing the amount and date, withdrawal confirmation and reference, bank statement, correspondence, support-ticket numbers, and any requests for verification. SEBI’s Investor Charter names contract notes, ledger statements, bank statements, and demat transaction statements as supporting records for its exchange complaint material; other routes may require different documents.
A routine delay or rejected transfer is not, by itself, evidence of fraud or broker insolvency. If the broker cannot be contacted, multiple customers’ accounts are frozen, or a regulator announces a default, preserve account records and promptly use the regulator’s or exchange’s official default or insolvency claims process. SEBI’s charter describes a separate process for claims involving a defaulting broker; an ordinary delayed-withdrawal complaint is not automatically such a case.
