A pending Solana transaction is not necessarily a failed one. Start with its transaction signature and check the correct network using getSignatureStatuses. Read both the error field (err) and confirmation stage (confirmationStatus); if the transaction has expired, create and sign a new transaction rather than editing the signed one.
Why is my Solana transaction pending?
“Pending” is not a definitive on-chain result. A transaction may still be processing, an RPC endpoint may be behind, or the transaction may no longer be within its recent-blockhash validity window. A missing lookup by itself does not establish that the transaction permanently failed.
Before troubleshooting, copy the transaction signature from the wallet or application that submitted it and confirm the cluster or network. A valid signature checked against the wrong network will not identify the transaction you sent.
How do I check whether a Solana transaction failed?
- Query
getSignatureStatusesusing the signature. Inspect the returned status, err, andconfirmationStatus. - Interpret confirmation carefully. Solana’s commitment levels progress from
processedtoconfirmedtofinalized. A transaction at a lower stage has not reached the stronger confirmation level an application or recipient may require. See Solana’s getSignatureStatuses documentation and migration guidance for the removed confirmTransaction method. - If the result is absent, check history where appropriate. The status method can search beyond the recent status cache with
searchTransactionHistory: true. AgetTransactionresponse ofnullis also inconclusive: the transaction may not be found, or may not be confirmed at the commitment requested. Do not infer permanent failure from either result alone.
An explicit non-null err signals an execution failure. When there is no reported error but the transaction has not reached the needed confirmation stage, treat it as unresolved until you check its lifetime and status again.

Can I resend a pending Solana transaction?
Do not immediately create a second transaction or assume a wallet’s retry control is safe. First determine whether the original signature is still progressing, has an explicit error, or has passed its validity limit. A separate newly signed transaction can create a duplicate action if the original later lands.
If the recent blockhash is still valid
The sending application should retain lastValidBlockHeight from the getLatestBlockhash response. Compare that saved value with the current confirmed block height from getBlockHeight. Solana’s confirmation guidance recommends waiting until block height exceeds the saved last-valid height before treating the transaction as expired; there is no universal pending duration in seconds.

If the limit has not been passed, allow for status propagation and RPC endpoint lag before deciding what to do. Solana advises aligning the preflight commitment used for simulation or sending with the commitment used to fetch the blockhash. Different or lagging RPC nodes can contribute to blockhash recognition and status-check problems. See the transaction confirmation and expiration guide.
If the blockhash validity limit has passed
Build a new transaction message using a fresh blockhash, then collect signatures for that new message. Do not replace the blockhash inside the old signed transaction: changing the blockhash or another signed-message field invalidates the existing signatures. Solana’s production readiness guidance and partial-signing documentation explain why an expired transaction must be rebuilt and signed again.

How to fix an explicit transaction error
Use the error and any simulation or preflight logs to identify where processing stopped. Solana RPC simulation results can expose an error and logs; use those details to correct the cause before submitting a corrected transaction.
- Blockhash-related error: the blockhash may be stale or not recognized by the endpoint. Fetch a fresh blockhash and construct a newly signed message, while aligning commitment settings and accounting for endpoint lag.
- Insufficient fee-payer funds: ensure the account paying the network fee has enough SOL for the transaction fee.
- Insufficient token balance: check that the token account has the required balance for the instruction.
- Instruction or simulation error: inspect the failing instruction and its logs, correct the reported cause, and then prepare a corrected transaction.
The Solana RPC JSON structures reference describes simulation result fields and preflight error data; the transaction pipeline documentation explains validation stages and common processing errors.

Can a failed Solana transaction still cost a fee?
Yes. Solana’s fee documentation states, “If the transaction fails, the fee is still charged.” It lists a base fee of 5,000 lamports per signature, with an optional prioritization fee; that base figure is not a guarantee that every transaction’s total fee will be 5,000 lamports. These are Solana transaction fees, not any separate fee a wallet or service may charge. Check the current Solana fee structure for the applicable policy and amounts.
