There is no single best accounting package for every small business in India. The right choice depends on how you handle GST invoicing, inventory, accountant access, number of users and businesses, and whether you want desktop, web, or mobile access. Six options with current vendor information are TallyPrime, Zoho Books, Vyapar, Marg ERP, myBillBook, and BUSY. The evidence available does not support a verified list of 22 products, so this guide compares those six rather than presenting an unverified 22-item ranking.
How to choose accounting software for a small business in India
Start with your actual workflow, not a feature count or a headline price. A retailer with several stock locations may need more inventory controls than a service business that mainly invoices clients. A desktop license, an online subscription, and a mobile-first plan also differ in how people access records and how costs are charged.
- GST workflow: Check that the product supports the invoices, reports, and filing or reconciliation steps your business actually uses. A general claim of GST support does not establish that every filing task is covered.
- Inventory: Decide whether basic stock tracking is enough or whether you need multiple locations, godowns, or more involved trading workflows.
- Access and users: Confirm whether the plan is for one computer, multiple computers, web access, or mobile use, and check how many users and businesses or companies it includes.
- Volume and features: Look for monthly bill or transaction caps and confirm that the required features are in the selected tier.
- Total cost: Compare like with like: monthly versus annual billing, subscription versus lifetime license, taxes, and any paid add-ons.
- Accountant access and migration: Check how your CA or accountant will work with the records and how existing data can be brought across before moving live books.
Six accounting software options compared
The figures below are vendor-page examples checked on October 4, 2026. They are not a standardized price survey: billing bases, taxes, inclusions, and limits differ. Confirm the live offer and your required tier with the vendor before purchasing.
| Software | Vendor-described strengths | Price or plan information available | What to verify |
|---|---|---|---|
| TallyPrime | Invoicing and accounting, inventory, reports, and GST functions; Silver is for one PC and Gold for multiple PCs. | Silver: ₹750 for one month or ₹22,500 lifetime. Gold: ₹2,250 for one month or ₹67,500 lifetime. The vendor page says 18% GST is additional. | Whether the PC licensing model suits your team and which GST, inventory, and reporting functions are included in your chosen edition. |
| Zoho Books | Subscription plans with a free tier and paid tiers; features vary by tier. | Standard is ₹749 per organization per month when billed annually. The vendor page says prices exclude local taxes. | Organization-level limits and which tier includes the capabilities you need; this is not directly comparable to a per-user license. |
| Vyapar | GST invoices and reports, inventory tracking, income and expense tracking, cash-flow statements, and invoicing. | The vendor page advertises a small-business plan at ₹242 per month; the billing terms and feature access need confirmation on the live offer. | Billing basis, included features, access model, and whether the selected plan supports your required workflow. |
| Marg ERP | Multiple editions aimed at small businesses and growing or larger businesses. | Displayed examples: Nano ₹5,550 (two users, two companies, 450 bills/month); Basic ₹10,300; Silver ₹13,900; Gold ₹26,000. The page says GST is additional. | Edition-specific user, company, and bill limits, feature differences, and the applicable GST charge. |
| myBillBook | Access through mobile, web, and desktop depending on platform and plan; listed features include inventory, godown management, e-way bills, e-invoicing, POS, and recurring billing, with tier-dependent availability. | The vendor page shows monthly and annual price examples, but the available information does not establish a single comparable price for the product. | Exact tier, billing period, user and business limits, platform availability, and whether each required feature is included. |
| BUSY | Billing, accounting, GST, inventory, receivables, payables, and business reports. | Current plan pricing is not established by the available vendor information. | Current edition and price, plus the limits and features included in each option. |
Which option may fit your workflow?
If you want a desktop or multi-PC setup
TallyPrime is the clearest fit to investigate if you prefer a PC-based workflow and need accounting alongside inventory and GST functions. Its vendor describes Silver for one PC and Gold for multiple PCs, so check how your staff will access the same records before choosing an edition.

If you prefer organization-based online plans
Zoho Books is worth comparing if a subscription organized around a business entity suits your accounting setup. Its Standard example is priced per organization, not per user, so check the plan’s included limits and features rather than comparing its figure directly with a computer license.
If invoicing and day-to-day small-business tracking lead
Vyapar’s vendor describes invoicing, inventory, income and expenses, cash-flow statements, and GST reports. Confirm the advertised plan’s billing terms and feature access before treating the ₹242 monthly figure as the cost for your use case.
Rank #2
- Ideal for Gifting
- Ideal for a bookworm
- Compact for travelling
If trading inventory and edition limits matter
Marg ERP publishes several editions, and its Nano example makes user, company, and monthly bill limits explicit. Those limits matter as much as the starting price if your business has multiple entities, staff, or high invoice volume.
If you need mobile, web, or desktop access by plan
myBillBook’s platform and feature availability varies by tier. Compare the exact plan against your need for godown management, e-way bills, e-invoicing, POS, recurring billing, and the number of users or businesses.
Rank #3
If BUSY is already on your shortlist
BUSY’s vendor describes a broad billing, accounting, GST, inventory, and reporting feature set. Obtain current plan and limit details directly before comparing its cost with products whose prices are available here.
Test your shortlist before migrating live records
Use a trial or vendor demonstration with realistic examples from your own business. This can reveal a mismatch that a feature list or starting price will not.
Rank #4
- Prepare representative sales invoices, purchase entries, and any GST reports or reconciliation steps you rely on.
- Enter sample inventory transactions, including multiple locations or godowns if your business uses them.
- Check bank reconciliation and the reports you use to make operating decisions.
- Invite or consult your accountant or CA and confirm how they will review records and complete their work.
- Verify the plan’s user, business, volume, and feature limits, then calculate the total cost on the billing basis you intend to use, including applicable taxes.
- Confirm how your existing records can be migrated and inspect the results before transferring live books.
Why this guide compares six products, not 22
The title’s 22-product count cannot be substantiated by the available current vendor information. App Advisor Research’s 2026 overview names eight products—TallyPrime, Zoho Books, BUSY, Vyapar, Marg ERP, QuickBooks Online, Odoo Accounting, and Tally on Cloud by Hostbooks—but that secondary coverage does not establish or verify a complete set of 22 suitable products. The six products above have enough vendor-described information for a practical comparison, but those descriptions are not independent head-to-head evaluations.
