If a Google review QR code is not working, first check whether the code scans, where it sends the customer, and whether the customer is signed in to a Google Account. If the correct Business Profile opens but Google says reviews are disabled, the issue may be review availability for that profile—not the QR image.
Start by identifying where the process fails
A QR code can fail at different points, and each points to a different fix. Scan it with a phone camera, then note what happens:
- Nothing opens: Check whether the code is clear, undamaged, and generated from the intended review link.
- A page opens, but it is the wrong business or destination: Compare the destination with the current review link in the Business Profile.
- Google asks the customer to sign in: This is a required step for submitting a review, not necessarily a QR-code fault.
- The correct profile opens, but posting reviews is disabled: The issue may be profile-specific review availability; regenerating the image may not help.
Generate a fresh QR code from the Business Profile
Google’s workflow provides the current review link and QR code. Google says QR codes for reviews can be generated only in a computer browser, not on a mobile device. If the existing code came from a third-party generator or an old print file, replace it with one from the official workflow.
- On a computer, open the business’s Google Business Profile.
- Select Read Reviews, then Get more reviews.
- Copy the review link or download the QR code.
- Scan the new code with a phone and check that it leads to the intended business and review path before printing it.
See Google’s instructions for sharing a review link or QR code.

Check the destination, not just whether the code scans
A successful scan confirms that the phone can read the image; it does not confirm that the image points to the right place. Check the page that opens. If it leads to a general business profile, an unexpected destination, or another listing, compare it with the current review link shown in the Business Profile. Generate a replacement only after confirming the correct listing and link.
Explain the Google Account sign-in requirement
Customers must be signed in to a Google Account to submit a review. An account does not have to use a Gmail address; Google says it can be created with a non-Gmail email address. A sign-in or account-creation page can therefore be a normal part of the process. Google’s guidance is in its review-sharing instructions and review guidance for businesses.

A June 2026 question in the Google Business Profile Community describes a QR code opening a sign-in page. Community discussion can illustrate what users encounter, but Google’s account requirement is the useful distinction: sign-in alone does not show that the QR code is broken.
If you own the business, test the flow carefully
A March 2023 community thread reports that an owner testing their own link while signed in may not see the same review prompt as a customer. This is a community troubleshooting report, not an official guarantee. If you cannot tell whether the customer flow works, ask an independent person to inspect the destination. They should submit a review only if they had a genuine experience with the business.

When the right profile opens but reviews are disabled
If scanning succeeds and the correct profile opens, but Google says posting reviews is disabled, the QR image may not be the problem. A 2024 community discussion describes this message and a community product expert’s response that review availability can affect more than the QR route. That does not establish why any particular profile is restricted.
Check the Business Profile directly and seek profile-specific help through Google Business Profile support. Replacing the QR code is unlikely to resolve a restriction on review availability.

Retest before replacing printed materials
Once a newly generated QR code opens the intended review path on a phone, replace old cards, receipts, or signs that carry a different code. Google suggests displaying the code in-store and sharing it on receipts, thank-you emails, or at the end of a chat interaction. A countertop display can make a tested code easier to see, but it cannot fix an incorrect link, the sign-in requirement, or profile-level review availability.
