What Happens to Your Funds When Bridging to Hyperliquid?

Hyperliquid deposits depend on the asset and network. Here’s how the Arbitrum USDC route works, what happens after crediting, and how withdrawals and missing transfers differ.

When you bridge funds to Hyperliquid, they move through a route specific to the token and networks you select; they do not all follow one universal bridge path. In the familiar USDC example, USDC starts on Arbitrum, is deposited through Hyperliquid’s interface, and—after the deposit is processed—appears in your Hyperliquid account. From there, you can allocate funds between spot and perpetuals balances. The exact route, fees and timing depend on the deposit method shown in the current interface.

What happens in a typical Arbitrum USDC deposit?

  1. Choose the deposit route. Hyperliquid’s current onboarding guide lists multiple assets, networks and methods, including USDC and ETH on Arbitrum. Select the exact asset and network shown in the deposit interface; the legacy bridge route described in Hyperliquid’s documentation accepts USDC sent over Arbitrum. A token with the same ticker on another chain is not necessarily compatible. See Hyperliquid’s onboarding guide and its bridge documentation.
  2. Send the asset using that route. For the classic example, this means sending Arbitrum USDC to the address or through the flow provided by Hyperliquid’s deposit interface. Do not substitute a different network or token contract based only on its name.
  3. Wait for processing and crediting. Once credited, the funds appear in your Hyperliquid account. The route and network affect how the transfer is handled; a deposit is not the same operation as a later withdrawal.
  4. Use the credited balance. Hyperliquid lets you move funds between spot and perps balances within your account. This internal allocation is distinct from sending assets out to another blockchain.

The Arbitrum-USDC path is a useful example, not a description of every available deposit. The current interface may offer other assets, networks, or methods, including CCTP and direct exchange routes.

How do other deposit routes differ?

Hyperliquid describes Arbitrum as a common way to receive USDC when a centralized exchange does not directly support Hyperliquid. It also documents third-party services that can move funds to Arbitrum. Those services are independent providers, not Hyperliquid’s native bridge. Before using any route, compare the details displayed by the provider and destination interface:

  • Networks: Confirm both the source and destination networks.
  • Asset: Check which token is accepted and what asset will be credited to your account.
  • Costs: Separate network gas from any provider charge or withdrawal fee.
  • Timing: Review the stated arrival estimate and the steps that must complete before funds are credited.
  • Operator and support: Know whether Hyperliquid or an independent provider handles the transfer, and where to seek help if it stalls.

Available routes and their terms can change. Check the current interface and provider terms before sending.

Are gas and trading fees the same?

No. Hyperliquid says trading is gas-free, but that does not mean every deposit or withdrawal is free of network costs. Native gas is required on some deposit routes, and some withdrawal chains or methods may carry small gas fees. A third-party service may also have its own charges. Check the specific route rather than assuming that gas-free trading means a fee-free transfer.

What happens when you withdraw?

A withdrawal is a separate transaction flow from depositing or moving funds between spot and perps balances. Hyperliquid’s API reference says a withdrawal request is signed by L1 validators and sent to the bridge contract. That page states that withdrawals had a $1 fee and took approximately five minutes to finalize “at the time of this writing”; it gives no captured publication date, so neither figure should be treated as a current quote or guaranteed processing time. Check the current withdrawal screen for applicable costs and status. See the Hyperliquid Exchange endpoint reference.

Why can a transfer be missing?

Confirm you used Withdraw, not Send

Hyperliquid Support states: “Send is used to send tokens to another account on the Hyperliquid blockchain. It is not to withdraw to another blockchain.” A Send to a centralized exchange may only be accessible to that exchange; retrieval may depend on whether the exchange integrates the Hyperliquid blockchain. Check the action label and destination before sending.

Check the withdrawal record and transaction status

If you expected a withdrawal to arrive in an external wallet, first inspect the Deposits & Withdrawals table, confirm the action and status, then open the explorer link for a completed withdrawal. Follow the steps in Hyperliquid Support’s missing-withdrawal guide.

For a missing deposit, use the guide for its route

Check the asset and network you actually used, then consult Hyperliquid Support’s deposit and transfer issues index for the relevant missing-deposit instructions. Do not assume a wrong-network or unsupported-token transfer can be recovered; the documentation does not promise recovery.

What risks should you consider before sending?

Verify the destination and protect wallet access

Hyperliquid warns that anyone with access to your wallet’s private key or recovery phrase can access the funds. It recommends keeping the recovery phrase in a safe physical location. Never disclose your private key or recovery phrase to someone offering transfer help. A hardware wallet may be one way to manage self-custody, but it is not required to bridge and does not remove bridge or protocol risk.

Understand what an audit does—and does not—establish

Hyperliquid Docs says, “The Hyperliquid legacy bridge contract has been audited by Zellic,” and lists first and final audit reports on its audits page. That statement is limited to the legacy bridge contract: it is not a guarantee that the contract or any other deposit route is risk-free, nor does it establish that every current route was covered.
