A connection can reveal public wallet information; a signature, token approval or transaction can authorize actions with funds. If you cannot understand a prompt or verify the app’s key claims, do not proceed.
First, work out what the app actually does
“PayFi” does not identify one product model. An app might provide a wallet-connected payment or escrow interface, route stablecoin payments between other providers, or combine several roles. Those differences matter: the website you visit, the company operating it, the contract you approve and the party handling settlement may not be the same entity.
| Example | What the provider says it does | What to verify for your use |
|---|---|---|
| Paycifi | Its public materials describe USDC and EURC payments, programmable escrow and Base settlement. The company also describes a non-custodial wallet using Circle MPC, third-party wallet, compliance and fiat-ramp providers, and publicly available smart-contract source. | These are provider statements, not independent confirmation. Check the legal entity, deployed contract address and source, audit scope and date, actual custody and key-control arrangements, provider relationships, fees, dispute terms and rules that apply where you live. Paycifi’s own regulatory analysis says it is not a legal opinion. |
| PayF | PayF describes itself as a stablecoin-commerce routing network connecting issuers, wallets, card programs, payment institutions, software systems and merchants. It says it does not custody funds, issue stablecoins or operate payment licenses. | Its issuer information describes eligibility expectations such as licensing, reserve attestations, operating policies and sanctions/AML controls. Verify the status of the particular integration and partners; provider-authored descriptions do not establish those facts independently. |
For any app, draw the money path in plain language: which stablecoin and network are used, which wallet or contract receives funds or permissions, who holds or controls keys, which ramps or settlement parties are involved, and who handles redemption or disputes. If the app cannot explain its role and counterparties clearly, you cannot assess what you are authorizing.
Verify the site and the operator before connecting
Check the destination
Reach the site through a reliable official channel, inspect the domain character by character and bookmark the genuine address. Look-alike pages can imitate real wallets and dapps. Never enter a wallet recovery phrase into a website. Ethereum.org’s scam guidance recommends verifying the URL before connecting.

Identify who is accountable
Find the operating legal entity, its jurisdiction and its role in the service. Distinguish that company from wallet providers, stablecoin issuers, payment institutions, fiat ramps, merchants and settlement partners. Check the service’s legal terms for fees, redemption, settlement timing, disputes, support and loss handling, and confirm which terms and authorizations apply to your location. A provider’s claim that it is licensed, compliant or non-custodial is not proof by itself; ask what entity and activity the claim covers and what documentation supports it.
Know what each wallet prompt can do
A connection, a message signature, a token approval and a transaction are different requests. Read the prompt itself rather than treating every wallet pop-up as a routine login.

Connection
Connecting commonly lets a site see your public wallet address and related activity and propose later prompts. The connection alone does not transfer funds. Wallet guidance from Coinbase and Binance.US explains the distinction between dapp access and permissions that affect assets.
Message signature
A signature may not show a network fee, but it can still authorize an action depending on the message. Do not assume that signing is harmless because no gas fee appears. If the wallet cannot display the message clearly, or the app cannot explain why it needs the signature, decline it. Uniswap Labs’ guidance on signature scams explains why message signatures deserve scrutiny.

Token approval or allowance
An approval can authorize a spender contract to use a token. Check the token, spender address and allowance amount; an unlimited allowance can expose the full balance of that token to the spender. Approve only what the action requires, if the wallet and app offer a limited amount you can verify.
Transaction
Before confirming a transaction, check its action, chain, contract or recipient, token and amount against what the app said would happen. Once a blockchain transaction is accepted, the user generally cannot reverse it.
Rank #4
For every prompt, stop if the request is unreadable, unrelated to the action, inconsistent with the app’s explanation or addressed to a contract you cannot verify. A wallet warning merits investigation; no warning is not proof that a request is safe. MetaMask explains that its security alerts and trust signals are informational, not guarantees, and that a missing verified signal alone does not prove a site is malicious.

| Area | What to establish |
|---|---|
| Custody and recovery | Who can move or freeze funds, who controls the keys, how recovery works and what happens if a provider becomes unavailable. |
| Entity and counterparties | The operator, its jurisdiction and role, the parties handling wallets, ramps, settlement and redemption, and any relevant authorization for your location. |
| Assets and settlement path | Supported stablecoins and networks, any bridges or conversion steps, settlement timing and how redemption works. |
| Contracts and security | Exact deployed contract addresses, whether published source corresponds to those deployments, independent audit scope and date, upgrade or administrator controls, and disclosed incidents. |
| Permission requested | The precise signature, spender, token, chain and allowance amount requested for the action you intend to take. |
| Costs and recourse | Fees and exchange spreads, dispute process, support route, and who is responsible if a payment fails or funds are lost. |
An audit is evidence about a defined review, not a guarantee that a product is safe: establish what contracts and versions were reviewed and when. Likewise, public source code or a provider’s security statement does not by itself prove that the deployed contract matches the code or that operational controls are sound.
Manage access after you use the app
Review connected sites and token allowances separately. Disconnecting a dapp ends its wallet connection, but it does not revoke an on-chain token approval. Use the wallet’s trusted permissions controls or a trusted explorer tool to review and revoke allowances you no longer need; MetaMask’s dapp guide and Ethereum.org’s scam guidance explain the distinction. A separate or hardware wallet can limit which wallet is exposed, but it cannot validate a dapp or make a misleading signature safe.
Quick Recap
Use a clear stop/go rule
- Proceed only if you verified the domain and operator, understand who handles each step of the payment, and can match every wallet prompt to the action you chose.
- Pause or walk away if the app obscures its counterparties or terms, a contract or permission cannot be explained, the prompt differs from the stated action, or you are being asked for your recovery phrase.
