It usually means EPFO is waiting for your employer or an authorized signatory to approve the request digitally. The next step depends on what is pending: KYC, an online claim, a transfer-related verification, or a qualifying profile update. Check the request type in the official EPFO member portal before contacting your employer.
What the status means
“Pending with employer for digital signing” is not established as one universal EPFO status label for every kind of request. It generally describes an item awaiting an employer-side approval using a digital-signature or e-Sign facility. EPFO’s member FAQ says member-uploaded KYC is initially marked pending and becomes verified after the employer approves it digitally: EPFO member FAQ.
EPFO describes authorized-signatory digital signing as an employer-portal function for KYC attestation and transfer-claim approval: EPFO DSC/e-Sign FAQ. The exact action and responsible party depend on the request shown in your account.
Identify what is pending
| Portal item | What EPFO guidance says | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Member-entered KYC | Employer digital approval precedes the “Verified” status in EPFO’s member FAQ. | Which KYC field is pending and whether the employer has an approval task. |
| Online claim | The employer checks member details and digitally attests the claim under EPFO’s employer guidance: EPFO employer FAQ. | Whether it is waiting for present-employer attestation and whether the employer needs information from you. |
| Transfer-related previous-employment verification | A previous employer may have a separate task to verify employment details for its establishment; the present employer may still handle claim attestation. See EPFO employer FAQ. | Whether the portal identifies the previous employer’s verification as the pending task. |
| Profile update | EPFO’s January 2025 announcement describes self-approval for specified updates by members with Aadhaar-validated UANs: EPFO announcement, January 19, 2025. | Whether your UAN and the specific requested field meet the stated eligibility conditions. |
What to do next
- Sign in to the official EPFO member portal. Locate the row or request carrying the status and note whether it is KYC, a claim, a transfer item, or a profile correction.
- Contact the relevant employer’s HR or payroll team. Ask them to check the employer interface for the pending request and confirm whether they need anything from you. For a claim, ask whether present-employer attestation is outstanding.
- For a transfer, establish which employer has the task. Ask whether the pending step is the present employer’s claim attestation or a previous employer’s verification of old employment details.
- For a profile correction, check the limited self-approval route. EPFO’s January 19, 2025 announcement says Aadhaar-validated UAN holders can self-update specified fields. A qualifying member with an existing employer-pending request may delete it and use the revised route; this does not apply universally to KYC, claims, or other requests.
- Use EPFO’s official member support or grievance channels if the employer cannot resolve a portal or eligibility issue.
When the January 2025 self-update route may help
EPFO said that nearly 45% of the 8 lakh profile-correction requests it received in FY 2024–25 could be self-approved under the revised procedure. It also reported that the change would remove an average employer-approval delay of nearly 28 days for requests eligible for that route, immediately benefit around 3.9 lakh members with requests pending at various stages, and address profile/KYC issues that accounted for around 27% of member grievances at the time of the announcement. These figures describe EPFO’s profile-updation announcement, not a current count or a promised resolution time for every employer-pending request.

Is there a set waiting time?
EPFO’s cited guidance does not establish a guaranteed number of days for this exact status to clear. The nearly 28-day figure in the 2025 announcement was an average employer-approval delay associated with eligible profile updates, not a service-level commitment for all pending requests. Check with the responsible employer rather than relying on an assumed deadline.

Do not pay an agent or share Aadhaar, PAN, bank details, or OTPs with callers who promise to clear the status. EPFO warns members not to share these details in response to calls and says it does not call members to deposit money: EPFO member information.
