The usual cash-out process is to sell crypto for INR on an exchange, then withdraw the INR to a verified bank account using a payout method the exchange currently offers. That may be a bank transfer rather than UPI. Check your account’s live withdrawal options and restrictions before transferring funds.
How crypto cash-out to a bank account works
UPI moves money between bank accounts; it is not a crypto wallet or an on-chain destination. NPCI describes UPI as an instant payment system developed by NPCI, an RBI-regulated entity. The practical process has two separate parts: selling crypto for INR, then requesting an INR payout through a method supported for your exchange account and verified bank. NPCI’s UPI FAQ explains the payment system.
- Check account eligibility and restrictions. Confirm that the exchange supports selling your asset for INR and withdrawing INR for your country, account and bank. Read any notices about UPI, crypto withdrawals or linked-bank restrictions before depositing INR or transferring crypto.
- Complete verification. Finish the exchange’s identity checks and add or verify the bank account it requires. Use an account in the verified user’s name where the platform requires name matching.
- Sell crypto for INR. Use the exchange’s supported market or conversion flow. The INR proceeds can vary with the transaction price, spread, fees and any applicable tax withholding; there is no universal net amount.
- Request an INR payout. Choose the payout route currently shown in your account. If the exchange offers NEFT or IMPS, describe it as a bank transfer—not as a UPI withdrawal merely because UPI is another way people move INR.
- Keep the records. Save the trade or order record, withdrawal ID, bank reference and any tax record. These details help the exchange or bank trace a delayed or disputed transaction.
Why the UPI option may be missing or disabled
Available payment methods can depend on the exchange’s banking relationships and the state of your account. CoinDCX says that requesting crypto-withdrawal access can make UPI INR deposits unavailable because its banking partners do not allow both functions together under current restrictions. That is a platform-specific statement, not a rule that applies to every exchange. Check your current account screen and CoinDCX’s help page for its current terms.
Also distinguish a UPI deposit option from an INR withdrawal option: a platform may disable one without disabling the other. Do not assume that an absent UPI button means you cannot sell crypto or withdraw INR by a different supported route.

Why crypto withdrawals may be blocked after an INR deposit
Some platforms apply restrictions to particular account actions. WazirX says crypto withdrawals are temporarily blocked after a first INR deposit, while trading and INR withdrawals to a linked bank through NEFT or IMPS may remain available subject to its compliance restrictions. This is WazirX-specific; it is not a universal exchange rule. Review WazirX’s explanation and the notice shown in your own account before planning a transfer.
What to check when an INR withdrawal is pending
First identify whether the exchange has submitted a bank payout or whether you are looking at a UPI transaction. They can involve different providers and complaint paths. For an exchange payout, work through these checks:

- Confirm the exchange shows the withdrawal as submitted, and note its withdrawal ID and status.
- Check the bank account holder name, account number and IFSC against the verified details in the exchange account. Confirm the bank account is active and correctly linked.
- Look for an exchange notice about a banking-network issue, verification hold, failed payout or returned funds.
- Use the processing window stated by that exchange for your case. Do not treat another provider’s estimate as a general banking standard.
- If the stated window has passed, contact exchange support through the official app or site and provide the withdrawal ID and relevant bank reference. Avoid submitting duplicate withdrawals while the first request is unresolved.
WazirX lists banking-network issues and incorrect linked-bank details as possible causes. Its support page estimates up to three banking days for a banking issue and up to 48 hours for incorrectly linked bank details; these are WazirX help-page estimates, not a guarantee or a standard for other providers. CoinDCX support material also flags KYC, bank verification and invalid IFSC details, with estimates that vary by withdrawal amount. Check the current provider guidance, especially for a large payout: WazirX withdrawal help and CoinDCX support material.
What to do about a failed UPI payment or debit
If the disputed transaction was actually made through UPI—for example, a UPI payment failed or your account was debited—check its status or raise a transaction complaint through your participating bank’s UPI app. NPCI says an initiated UPI payment cannot be stopped. If the money movement was an exchange-to-bank payout by NEFT or IMPS, report it to the exchange as well; a UPI complaint route may not apply to that transfer. Never share your UPI PIN or OTP with anyone claiming to be support. See NPCI’s UPI FAQ.

If you use P2P, verify the payment before releasing crypto
A peer-to-peer (P2P) sale is different from an exchange selling crypto for INR and paying out to your bank. It involves a buyer or seller as counterparty, so follow the platform’s order, escrow and appeal process. Binance’s P2P policy says the buyer should pay only to the seller bank account whose name matches the seller’s registered name. Before releasing crypto, verify the credit in your own bank account; screenshots, messages or payment promises are not proof of receipt.
- Do not accept third-party payments or move money onward at another person’s request.
- Keep the order details and bank references, and use the platform’s appeal channel if the payment or name does not match.
- Do not release crypto until the funds are actually credited and the platform’s process permits release.
Binance’s P2P policy describes its name-matching rule. An Enforcement Directorate press release from 2025 documents one investigated fraud involving bank accounts and P2P crypto transactions; it is a case example, not evidence that all P2P trades are illicit. Read the ED release.

UPI limits and tax withholding to keep separate
NPCI’s FAQ states a normal UPI transaction limit of up to ₹1 lakh per transaction. A bank, app, transaction category or risk control may impose a different cap, and this UPI figure is not an exchange’s crypto-sale or INR-withdrawal limit. Confirm the applicable limit with the bank, app and exchange you are using. NPCI UPI FAQ.
Under the Income Tax Department’s guidance reflecting the Income-tax Act as amended by Finance Act 2026, Section 194S provides for 1% TDS on consideration for a transfer of a virtual digital asset (VDA). The guidance states annual consideration thresholds of ₹10,000 generally and ₹50,000 for a specified person. Whether withholding applies to your transaction depends on the law and your circumstances; confirm current requirements with the Income Tax Department or a qualified tax professional. TDS is not a UPI fee and is not, by itself, your final tax liability. Income Tax Department guidance on TDS for VDA transfers.
