To connect a robot vacuum to Wi-Fi, add it in the manufacturer’s official app, select a home network supported by your exact model, enter that network’s password, and follow the app’s pairing prompts. Button presses, phone permissions, Wi-Fi bands, and discovery methods vary by model, so use the instructions shown for your vacuum rather than a universal button sequence.

Before you start

  • Place the robot on its dock or otherwise make sure it has power.
  • Install the official app for the vacuum, then sign in or create an account if prompted.
  • Connect your phone to the home Wi-Fi network you want the vacuum to use. Check the model’s instructions for supported Wi-Fi bands; some vacuums do not support 5 GHz, while others have different requirements.
  • Turn on Bluetooth and grant the app requested permissions, such as location or local network access. Requirements depend on the brand and phone.
  • Have the home network password ready. During setup, the app may also ask you to connect briefly to a temporary network broadcast by the robot; that network is not a replacement for your home Wi-Fi.

For example, ECOVACS’ global setup FAQ calls for 2.4 GHz availability, phone internet access, Bluetooth, and requested permissions. Follow the instructions for your model and region: ECOVACS setup FAQ.

Connect the vacuum through its app

  1. Open the manufacturer’s app and choose its add-device option. The label may be Add Robot, Add Device, or similar. Select the vacuum’s model or family if asked. iRobot’s app, for instance, searches for nearby products or guides setup after you choose a model; Roborock starts from its add-device flow. iRobot setup; Roborock Android setup.
  2. Select the home Wi-Fi network and enter its password. Check the network name (SSID) before proceeding. Choose a band the robot supports, and enter the router’s password—not a password for a temporary robot network.
  3. Follow the pairing prompts in the app. Depending on the model, you may need to press a button on the vacuum, enable a pairing mode, allow discovery, or connect your phone temporarily to the robot’s own Wi-Fi network. On Roborock’s iOS setup, for example, the app asks the user to select home Wi-Fi and then join a temporary network named roborock-vacuum-xxxx. Roborock iOS setup.
  4. Stay in the app until it confirms setup. Check the app status or indicator described in the instructions for your model. The phone may need to return to its usual Wi-Fi connection after a temporary pairing connection.

What differs by brand

Brand or setup route What to expect Important qualification
iRobot The app searches for nearby products or asks you to choose a robot family, then presents model-specific steps. Some models do not support 5 GHz. Newer and older models can use different button and discovery steps; use the guide for the exact model. iRobot setup.
Roborock on iOS The app asks for the home network and password, then may direct the phone to connect to a temporary roborock-vacuum-xxxx network. The temporary robot network is an intermediate pairing step, not the home network. The guide describes a solid Wi-Fi indicator as a successful connection. Roborock iOS setup.
Roborock on Android The guide uses device discovery, location permission, and home Wi-Fi selection. Follow the prompts in the Android app; screens can change. Roborock Android setup.
ECOVACS The global FAQ describes setup using the ECOVACS HOME app, Bluetooth, and requested permissions; AP configuration mode is an alternative when Bluetooth search does not find the robot. The Singapore initial-connection page says the models it covers support 2.4 GHz only and not enterprise networks. That guidance is regional and model-specific, not a specification for every DEEBOT. Global FAQ; Singapore initial connection.

Troubleshoot a failed or incomplete connection

The app cannot find the vacuum

  • Confirm the robot has power and is in the pairing mode specified in its instructions.
  • Enable Bluetooth and grant the app the permissions it requests.
  • Restart the add-device flow and select the correct model or family. If Bluetooth discovery fails, ECOVACS describes AP configuration mode as an alternative in its setup FAQ.

The home Wi-Fi network is missing or rejected

  • Check which bands the exact model supports. Roborock says its device does not support 5 GHz; iRobot says some models do not support it. Do not assume all robot vacuums have the same band requirement.
  • Make sure the network is visible during setup. ECOVACS advises against using a hidden Wi-Fi signal for its setup flow.
  • Check the router’s security mode against the manufacturer’s requirements. Roborock says WEP is unsupported and advises WPA or WPA2. Do not change router settings unless the model’s instructions call for it.

See Roborock’s Wi-Fi troubleshooting guidance and the ECOVACS setup FAQ.

The password is rejected or pairing does not finish

  • Recheck the home network name and password, including capitalization and any easily confused characters.
  • Confirm the app is asking for the router’s credentials. If it asks you to join a temporary robot network, follow that step separately.
  • Roborock suggests removing special characters from the network name or password as a troubleshooting option. Treat that as a vendor suggestion, not a universal cause or a guaranteed fix. Roborock troubleshooting.
  • Roborock also suggests disabling VPN or cellular data during setup. Try this only if you are following its setup guidance and the connection is failing.

The robot used to connect but now appears offline

Open the manufacturer’s app and use its reconnect or change-Wi-Fi option. For iRobot, the support flow recommends retrying the Wi-Fi connection and, if needed, restarting the robot, router, and phone before trying again. iRobot Wi-Fi troubleshooting.

Setup still fails

Contact the vacuum’s manufacturer with the exact model, app version, phone operating system, router configuration, and any error message. Avoid a factory reset or router changes unless the manufacturer’s instructions for that model recommend them.
