For the 2026 admission cycle, GATE scores were accepted for eligible postgraduate programmes at NITs, IIEST Shibpur, and some IIITs and centrally funded technical institutions through CCMT. Other institutions use separate admission processes: IIT Madras and Punjab Engineering College, for example, published their own GATE-based rules. There is no verified official nationwide list of every college accepting GATE scores. Check the current counselling programme matrix or the institution’s own admissions notice before applying.
The 2026 application and counselling dates have passed. These institutions and rules should not be treated as a confirmed list for 2027; check for new official notices for the next intake.
Which colleges accepted GATE scores in 2026?
These are the main institution groups documented in the official 2026 admissions material. CCMT covers participating institutions and eligible programmes, not every college or every postgraduate course in India.

Which GATE paper and degree qualify for a programme?
Eligibility is programme-specific. A programme may accept only certain GATE papers and qualifying degree disciplines, and an institute may add requirements of its own. The CCMT programme matrix maps eligible combinations; check the entry for the programme you want rather than assuming that any GATE paper or engineering degree will qualify.
For CCMT 2026, valid GATE scores from 2024, 2025, or 2026 were accepted. Its brochure set minimum qualifying-degree marks at 6.5/10 CGPA or 60% for GEN, GEN-EWS, and OBC candidates, and 6.0/10 CGPA or 55% for SC, ST, and PwD candidates. These were CCMT 2026 thresholds, not universal rules for every GATE-accepting institution or a guarantee of the criteria in a later cycle. Consult the CCMT portal for its brochure and programme matrix, and check separate institute notices for their requirements.

Do you apply through CCMT or directly to the institute?
Use the admission route specified for the institution and programme. CCMT is an application and counselling route for participating institutions; it is not a universal application portal for every college that considers GATE scores.
For a CCMT programme
Register through CCMT, confirm that your degree and GATE paper match the programme matrix, and enter eligible choices in the order you prefer. Allotment depends on eligibility, score-based merit, category, choice order, seat availability, and document verification. Follow the cycle’s official instructions for deadlines, fees, and required documents.
For an institute-specific programme
Submit the institute’s own application if its notice requires one. IIT Madras explicitly says COAP is not the application portal: applicants apply through the institute and use COAP to view and accept GATE-based offers. Do not assume the same process applies at another IIT or institution; verify its current notice.
Does qualifying in GATE guarantee admission or funding?
No. The GATE 2026 authority’s official disclaimer says: “Qualifying in GATE does not guarantee admission, scholarship, or a job.” A valid score makes you potentially eligible to apply; it does not by itself secure a seat or financial assistance.

Funding rules also vary. The CCMT 2026 brochure listed scholarships for full-time counselling seats and excluded sponsored seats and part-time programmes from its counselling scope. IIT Madras described HTTA financial assistance subject to institute rules and an eight-hour-per-week academic work obligation. Check the relevant institution’s current funding terms rather than applying these provisions to other colleges.

- Programme and degree: Confirm the exact course and institution are listed for the admission cycle.
- GATE paper and score year: Check accepted papers and score validity for that programme.
- Qualifying degree and marks: Review the eligible disciplines, minimum marks or CGPA, category rules, and any special criteria.
- Application route: Establish whether to use CCMT, apply directly to the institute, or do both; distinguish an offer portal such as COAP from the application portal.
- Selection and seats: Read the merit, choice-allotment, category, and seat-availability rules.
- Dates, fees, and documents: Use the current official notice for deadlines, payment requirements, and verification documents.
- Funding: Check scholarship or assistantship eligibility, availability, and obligations separately.
For the next intake, use newly published official notices: a 2026 participation list is not confirmation that the same programme or institution will participate in 2027.
