If you want a Hyatt hotel stay, first check the points price and award availability for your exact property, dates, and room in World of Hyatt’s booking flow. Compare that quote with the cash rate and cancellation terms. Treat an airline transfer as a separate choice: confirm the current partner, ratio, minimum, and flight redemption before moving points, because a transfer ratio alone does not tell you whether the flight is a good use of them.
Start by pricing the hotel stay you actually want
World of Hyatt points can be used for free nights at participating hotels and resorts, as well as other options such as points-plus-cash, room upgrades, all-inclusive stays, and dining or spa awards. The rules and pricing differ by redemption type, so do not assume every option uses the standard hotel award chart. Hyatt lists its redemption categories at Redeem World of Hyatt Points for Free Hotel Nights.
- Search your property, dates, room type, and number of guests in Hyatt’s booking flow.
- Record the points quote and whether a standard-room award is available for those dates.
- Check the paid rate for the same room and dates, including cancellation conditions, taxes, and fees shown at booking.
- Compare the total points and cash required for each workable option, along with its change and cancellation terms.
Hyatt says standard-room free nights at Hyatt hotels and resorts have no blackout dates. That does not guarantee that a standard room—or any award room—will be available on a particular date. The booking results for your stay are what matter.
Understand the standard-room award chart
Hyatt’s published standard-room chart has eight categories and five pricing levels: lowest, low, moderate, upper, and top. The chart gives program prices per night, not an estimate of a room’s cash value.
#1 Best Overall
| Standard-room category | Lowest | Low | Moderate | Upper | Top |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Category 1 | 3,000 | 4,500 | 6,000 | 7,500 | 9,000 |
| Category 8 | 35,000 | 45,000 | 55,000 | 65,000 | 75,000 |
These are Hyatt’s chart prices per night shown on its Free Nights & Upgrades page; the page was retrieved in 2026. Check the property’s current category and the quote for your dates, since chart prices and property assignments can change.
Other award types have separate charts. For example, Hyatt’s all-inclusive chart uses categories A through D; a category A standard-room award is listed at 12,000, 15,000, 20,000, 22,500, or 25,000 points per night from lowest through top. Hyatt says its listed free-night values assume single or double occupancy; additional guests may require more points, with a maximum of four people per room. Verify the applicable chart and occupancy terms for the specific stay.

Compare a hotel award with points-plus-cash
Points-plus-cash is a separate award option, not automatically a better deal. Hyatt describes it as requiring 50% of the points for a free night plus cash discounted 50–70% from the standard rate for the chosen room type; availability applies. Price it for the exact room and dates, then compare its combined outlay and terms with a full-points award and a paid booking. The chart and terms are on Hyatt’s Free Nights & Upgrades page.
When an airline transfer may make sense
If your goal is a flight rather than a hotel night, check the airline program’s actual award inventory and the specific flight redemption before transferring Hyatt points. Hyatt’s Air & Auto page says transfers start at 5,000 Hyatt points for 2,000 partner currency units, but the currencies and exceptions vary. For 5,000 Hyatt points, the page lists:
Rank #3
| Partner | Partner currency listed for 5,000 Hyatt points |
|---|---|
| Aeromexico | 4,000 kilometers |
| Air China | 3,200 kilometers |
| Qantas | 2,400 points |
| Southwest | 2,400 points |
| Virgin Atlantic | 3,000 miles |
| Other listed transfer terms | 2,000 partner currency units for 5,000 Hyatt points |
These are different currencies, not interchangeable units of value. Hyatt also notes that partner terms may vary and recommends checking with the preferred travel partner. Review the current terms on Convert Points Into Airline Miles before deciding. Hyatt’s page uses “miles” in its general description, but its exceptions include partner currencies called kilometers and points.
Aeroplan has its own specific terms
Hyatt’s Aeroplan page specifies a 2:1 transfer ratio from Hyatt points to Aeroplan points and a 5,000-Hyatt-point minimum. It also describes a 50,000-Hyatt-point redemption for a 30,000-Aeroplan-point Flight Reward Certificate, subject to restrictions in the page’s FAQ. Those terms are specific to Aeroplan; do not apply them to other partners. Check current details at Link World of Hyatt + Aeroplan for More Rewards.
Rank #4
For either a partner transfer or the Aeroplan certificate, compare the points required with the flight you can actually book, including applicable restrictions. An unneeded transfer can leave points in a program that does not serve your hotel-stay goal; Hyatt’s cited pages do not promise that transfers can be reversed.

Hyatt’s published transfer rules and award prices can change. Before each transfer, confirm the information on Hyatt’s current partner page and the receiving program’s terms rather than relying on an old ratio or chart.
Best Value
- It can be a gift option
- Comes with secure packaging
- Helpful in various ways
- Partner and direction: confirm that the partner still accepts the transfer you intend to make.
- Ratio and minimum: check how many partner units you will receive and the smallest transfer permitted.
- Receiving-program restrictions: review the destination program’s award availability, rules, and any certificate conditions.
- Fit with your goal: if you need a hotel night, compare Hyatt’s live hotel quote first; if you need a flight, verify the flight redemption first.
Special cases: combining points and home rentals
Combining points with another member
Hyatt says members may combine points with another World of Hyatt member to redeem an award. Its current Purchase, Share and Gift Rewards Points page describes points sharing. An older point-combining request form says members can transfer or receive points once every 30 days. Because that form is older, confirm the current procedure, eligible awards, and limits with Hyatt before relying on it.
Homes & Hideaways bookings
Do not assume hotel award rules apply to Homes & Hideaways. Hyatt’s Homes & Hideaways terms allow points for eligible nights at participating properties but exclude Free Night Awards, Points + Cash, Dining, Spa & More awards, and several other award types or benefits. Property requirements, including minimum stays and cancellation policies, apply.
