An Amex-to-Aeroméxico transfer bonus is worth using only when the specific award you can book delivers more value than the Amex points you give up—and the cash you still pay in taxes and fees. Find award space and a comparable cash fare first, then calculate: (comparable cash fare − award taxes and fees) ÷ Amex points transferred. A larger bonus means more Aeroméxico points, not automatically a better redemption.
Start with the transfer ratio for your card market
Amex transfer terms differ by issuing market. American Express’s U.S. transfer-partner page lists 1,000 Membership Rewards points to 1,600 Aeroméxico Rewards points. American Express México lists 100 Membership Rewards points to 115 Aeroméxico Rewards points. Check the ratio shown in the Membership Rewards account you will use; do not apply U.S. terms to a Mexican-issued card or assume the programs have identical conditions. For Mexico, Amex estimates that a transfer may take from one minute to two business days. That is a market-specific estimate, not a promise for every account or a timing rule for U.S. transfers. Amex México airline transfer page
Check whether a bonus is live and whether you qualify
Do not use a bonus percentage from a headline or an old offer in the calculation. Check the live offer and its terms in your own Amex account before transferring, including the registration deadline, eligible card market, qualifying transfer history, and any required registration step.

For context, an Amex México promotion ran from June 1 through June 30, 2026. It offered a 40% bonus to a member whose qualifying transfer was their first Membership Rewards transfer to Aeroméxico in the prior 24 months, and 30% to members who had transferred during that period. Registration before transferring was required; the offer applied to specified eligible Mexican-issued cards and excluded foreign-issued cards. It expired June 30, 2026, so it is a historical example, not a current offer. Amex México June 2026 promotion terms
The official sources available for this calculation do not establish an active U.S. transfer bonus as of October 3, 2026. Treat any unverified social or community post as a lead to check your account—not confirmation of a current offer or your eligibility.

Calculate the value using a real itinerary
- Find an award you can actually book. Search Aeroméxico Rewards for the intended travel dates, route, cabin, and number of travelers. Record the points required and confirm that the available itinerary works for you.
- Record the award’s cash charges. Include all taxes and fees payable for that award. Use the amount shown during booking, not an estimate.
- Find a comparable cash fare. Compare the same itinerary, cabin, dates, and relevant fare conditions. A different routing or a more restrictive cash ticket can distort the comparison.
- Work out how many Amex points the award consumes. Apply the transfer ratio shown in your account and include only a bonus that is live, registered if required, and confirmed for your account. Calculate the Amex points needed for the partner-points total; do not treat bonus points as free value independent of the award they buy.
- Subtract the award charges, then divide. Use
(comparable cash fare − award taxes and fees) ÷ Amex points transferred. If the cash amounts are in dollars, multiply the result by 100 to express it in cents per Amex point. - Compare with your personal alternative. Decide whether that result beats the value you place on using Amex points another way or keeping them flexible. Amex notes that Membership Rewards value varies by use; the cited program information does not establish one universal point value. Amex U.S. transfer-partner listing
Hypothetical example
Suppose a comparable ticket costs $600, the award has $100 in taxes and fees, and the transfer uses 40,000 Amex points. The calculation is ($600 − $100) ÷ 40,000 = $0.0125, or 1.25 cents per Amex point. These figures are illustrative only—not a current fare, award quote, or claim about typical Aeroméxico pricing. Replace them with the amounts for your own bookable itinerary.
Compare options on the same terms
If you are weighing multiple awards, dates, or uses for your points, put the options side by side. A bonus can change the number of Amex points required, but availability, fees, and the cash fare determine what the redemption is worth.

Understand the transfer risks before you move points
American Express U.S. advises checking award availability and the points required before transferring. It describes partner transfers as final; after transfer, the points are subject to the partner program’s terms. Its U.S. FAQ also says the linked loyalty account must belong to the card member or a qualifying Additional Card Member. Amex U.S. Membership Rewards FAQ
Amex México says the name on the Amex account and the Aeroméxico Rewards record must match for registration and transfer. Follow the requirements shown for your own market rather than assuming a rule or processing estimate in one country applies everywhere. Amex México airline transfer page

The June 2026 Mexico promotion specified that base transfer points could appear within 30 minutes and bonus points could take up to five business days; completed transfers could not be reversed or cancelled. Those were terms of that expired promotion, not a general timing or cancellation guarantee for current transfers. Amex México June 2026 promotion terms
