Then review Boeing’s filings and your own investment needs before deciding whether to keep, reduce or add to your position. Shareholders can also use voting, meeting questions and, when eligible, shareholder proposals to press for accountability. An investigation is important evidence about safety and possible business risks; it is not, by itself, a valuation or a forecast for Boeing (NYSE: BA).
What a safety investigation can—and cannot—tell you about the stock
An investigation may reveal facts relevant to Boeing’s operations, regulatory oversight, costs or legal exposure. But the investigation’s stage matters: preliminary information, allegations, established findings and final recommendations are not interchangeable. Nor does an agency’s conclusion automatically translate into a particular effect on Boeing’s earnings or share price.
No reliable statistic establishes a typical or causal share-price decline or recovery period for Boeing following a safety investigation. Avoid treating a dramatic price move, a news headline or an investigation’s existence as a dependable signal to buy or sell.
Separate agency action from market interpretation
On July 17, 2026, the Federal Aviation Administration announced that Boeing could resume issuing airworthiness certificates for all 737 MAX and 787 aircraft at the end of production, effective July 20. The FAA said the decision followed eight months of data showing comparable production-quality findings. It also said inspections, audits and monitoring would continue, including oversight of Boeing’s Safety Management System and safety culture. This is a dated regulatory development—not a forecast of BA’s performance or a declaration that all safety concerns are resolved.

A separate example illustrates why scope matters: an April 21, 2026 report by the Department of Transportation’s Office of Inspector General assessed FAA action concerning fume events in 737 MAX 8 aircraft and described unresolved assessment issues. That report concerns those specific events; it should not be generalized to every Boeing safety investigation.
Understand who controls an NTSB investigation
The National Transportation Safety Board decides which organizations, apart from the FAA, to designate as parties to an investigation. A party does not participate in the NTSB’s analysis and report-writing phase, although it may submit proposed findings and recommendations. A company’s party status therefore does not mean it controls the NTSB’s final analysis.
How to assess whether your investment decision should change
There is no universal sell, hold or buy answer for Boeing shareholders. Revisit your original reason for owning BA and consider whether the facts now affect your personal plan. These questions can help structure that decision:

- Ideal for a bookworm
- Compact for travelling
- What is established? Identify the investigation’s stage and distinguish confirmed findings from preliminary hypotheses, allegations and commentary.
- What has the regulator changed? Check for grounding orders, certification limits, production restrictions or other formal actions, and note what oversight remains in place.
- What does Boeing disclose? Review the company’s latest SEC filings for discussion of operations, costs, production, legal exposure and risks. Compare the company’s account with updates from the responsible agency.
- How much of your portfolio is exposed? Consider your position size and overall diversification rather than judging the risk in isolation.
- When might you need the money? Your time horizon, liquidity needs and willingness to absorb losses affect whether holding a volatile position fits your circumstances.
If the risk no longer fits your plan, you can consider rebalancing according to that plan. Neither a decision to sell nor one to hold is guaranteed to be better: the evidence available here does not support a price target, recovery timetable or probability of a particular outcome. Where to check Boeing and agency information
Start with Boeing’s investor resources for its SEC filings, investor-relations releases and ownership contact information. Read the latest 10-K, 10-Q, 8-K and proxy materials that are relevant to your question. Then compare Boeing’s statements with releases or records from the FAA, NTSB or other responsible authority. Keep clear which statements come from the company, which are agency findings, and which remain allegations or market commentary.
Boeing’s safety page includes statements by company personnel, but a company statement is not an independent agency finding. For example, Boeing Chief Aerospace Safety Officer Don Ruhmann told Flight International in July 2026: “I think about it this way: safety to the benefit of schedule. You’re not trading the two. You do the right things that are safe, and it benefits the outcome in the end.” That is his attributed view, not an adjudicated conclusion or financial forecast. Boeing’s 2025 Chief Aerospace Safety Officer Report also quotes 737 Chief Project Engineer Julie Brightwell saying that an increase in internal “Speak Up” submissions reflected employees’ greater comfort raising issues. That is an employee’s statement about Boeing’s reporting environment; it does not, on its own, measure safety performance.

How to manage your shares and use voting rights
Find out whether your shares are registered or held through a broker
If you own Boeing shares through a broker, bank or other nominee, you are generally a beneficial owner, and that intermediary handles account matters and provides voting instructions. Boeing says it and Computershare do not keep beneficial-owner account records. Registered shareholders can contact Computershare, Boeing’s transfer agent and registrar. Use Boeing’s investor resources to find current contact details rather than relying on an old address or phone number.
Follow the proxy for the meeting you plan to vote in
Voting instructions, record dates, deadlines and meeting business are specific to each meeting. Boeing’s 2026 proxy instructed beneficial owners to follow their broker’s or bank’s directions and use the control number in their proxy materials. For non-routine items, a beneficial owner needs to instruct the intermediary for the vote to count. Check the proxy and instructions for the relevant year; do not assume past procedures or deadlines still apply.
Boeing’s 2026 meeting materials included director elections, an advisory vote on executive compensation, auditor ratification and shareholder proposals. The 2026 proxy also described an Aerospace Safety Committee that reviews safety-related activities and specified FAA and NTSB matters. Use the current proxy to see the committee’s stated remit and the actual choices on the ballot; director elections and proposal votes are ways to express views, not guarantees of a particular board or operational response.

Use meeting questions or consider a proposal
The 2026 proxy said eligible registered and beneficial shareholders could submit written questions before or during the annual meeting using the specified control number. Boeing said it could group substantially similar questions and exclude questions unrelated to meeting matters or company business. For another meeting, check its proxy for eligibility, submission method and deadlines.
SEC Rule 14a-8 may allow a qualifying shareholder proposal to be included in a company’s proxy materials, subject to eligibility, ownership-proof, timing and other procedural requirements. Check the current SEC rules and Boeing’s proxy rather than relying on an older guide. The SEC shareholder-proposal page reflected 2026 updates, including an August 14, 2026 announcement that the Division of Corporation Finance would no longer respond to certain no-action requests; that change is another reason to verify current procedures before submitting a proposal.

A private legal claim is a different matter. Questions about whether particular disclosures were misleading, whether you have a claim, applicable deadlines, reliance, loss causation or class-action eligibility are fact-specific. Consult a qualified securities lawyer if you are considering an individual claim. A decline in Boeing’s share price alone does not establish wrongdoing or entitlement to compensation.
What Boeing’s ownership count says—and does not say
Boeing’s 2026 proxy reported approximately 785,844,140 common shares outstanding as of February 17, 2026. That is a dated share-count figure, not a current count, a measure of voting turnout or an estimate of investigation-related losses.
