They work differently, and a generic Bluetooth remote is not supported as a paired accessory for Kindle e-readers. Follow the troubleshooting path for your setup.
Identify your Kindle and page-turner
Check where the book is open and how the remote connects:
- Kindle app on a phone or tablet: The Bluetooth remote pairs with that host device. Troubleshoot the phone or tablet’s Bluetooth connection and the app.
- Kindle e-reader with a clip on the screen: The clip senses the display and responds to a separate RF remote. This is not a Bluetooth pairing setup; follow the accessory’s manual. One surfaced product manual says its page-turner uses neither Bluetooth nor Wi-Fi (page-turner manual).
Amazon’s e-reader Bluetooth instructions cover audio accessories and say pairing a Bluetooth phone, keyboard, or mouse is unsupported. Don’t try to connect a generic Bluetooth page-turner to an e-reader through its audio-device settings (Amazon Kindle Bluetooth help).
If a screen-sensor clip and RF remote stopped working
Check power and sensor contact
- Make sure the clip and remote are charged or switched on, as applicable to your model.
- Clean the sensor tip and confirm it touches the display.
- Check the clip’s position against the accessory’s instructions. A misplaced clip may not register a page turn.
Pair the remote and clip again
Button sequences vary by product, so use the manual for your exact accessory. In one documented setup, you switch on the sensor clip, press the RF remote to pair, and look for the clip to flash blue three times as confirmation. Then position the clip in the indicated screen area and press the remote. That manual says the clip’s left/right placement determines whether it turns to the previous or next page (setup manual).
#1 Best Overall
If pairing fails, put the clip in its screen position first and then try pairing again. If it works but covers text, adjust its position or the book’s reading margins where available. These are product-specific instructions, not universal steps for every page-turner (troubleshooting manual).
Account for model-specific behavior
Some manuals describe behaviors that apply only to their own products. For example, one says its clip powers off after 30 minutes without use; another says a red indicator signals low power. If your accessory has shut off or shows a warning light, check its manual before treating that behavior as a fault (FAQ manual; user manual).

If a Bluetooth remote controls the Kindle app
Confirm the remote is powered and connected to the phone or tablet—not to the Kindle e-reader. Then try these steps in order:
- Restart the phone or tablet.
- Force-close the Kindle app, then reopen it.
- Disconnect the Bluetooth remote from the host device and reconnect it.
- Install any available updates for the device and Kindle app.
These steps were suggested by Amazon staff in response to a particular iPad app and external-keyboard problem. A later staff post said that issue had been resolved; the thread is a limited troubleshooting example, not proof of a current, general Kindle app defect or a guarantee that every remote will work (Amazon forum thread).

Check compatibility before buying or replacing a clip
A screen-sensor clip may be a suitable option for an e-reader only if its maker lists your exact Kindle model as compatible. Manuals for some products warn that certain Kindles are unsupported; one surfaced guide specifically excludes older Kindles and Kindle 7/8. Check the current compatibility information for the precise accessory and reader model rather than relying on a general claim that a page-turner works with “Kindle” (compatibility and troubleshooting manual).
When comparing accessories, check whether they are designed for an e-reader or an app-host device, how they connect, where the clip must sit, whether it could obscure text, and how charging and re-pairing work. No universal brand ranking or performance comparison is established by the available manuals.
