In Forbes’ 2024 ranking, John Collison, Evan Spiegel and Ben Francis were among the world’s youngest billionaires. Forbes estimated their fortunes at $7.2 billion, $3.1 billion and $1.3 billion, respectively. The figures are estimates published in 2024, not current net-worth valuations.

How Forbes’ 2024 youngest-billionaire ranking was framed

Forbes contributor Monica Hunter-Hart’s article, published April 2, 2024, covered the youngest people on Forbes’ 2024 World’s Billionaires list. Forbes said the 25 youngest were all 33 or younger and had combined estimated wealth of $110 billion. The three people below were listed as self-made billionaires, though their businesses and paths to wealth differed.

Forbes also noted that every billionaire under 30 on that year’s list had inherited their fortune, describing it as the first time since 2009 that no self-made billionaire under 30 appeared. That observation applies to the under-30 group on the 2024 list; it does not describe every young billionaire or later rankings.

The three named billionaires

Person Age in Forbes article Estimated net worth Citizenship listed Source of wealth
John Collison 33 $7.2 billion Irish Stripe
Evan Spiegel 33 $3.1 billion U.S. Snapchat
Ben Francis 31 $1.3 billion U.K. Gymshark

These U.S.-dollar estimates are the amounts Forbes reported in its 2024 article. Collison had the highest estimate among these three; the amounts should not be read as a like-for-like comparison of company value or as present-day personal wealth.

John Collison: Stripe and online payments

Forbes traced Collison’s path with his brother Patrick to Auctomatic, an eBay-management software startup they sold for $5 million in 2007. The brothers later founded Stripe, the payments company Forbes listed as Collison’s source of wealth.

Evan Spiegel: Snapchat and social media

Spiegel left Stanford to start Snapchat in 2011 with Bobby Murphy and Reggie Brown. Forbes said he became a billionaire at 25 and was Snap’s CEO when the article was published; it listed Snapchat as his source of wealth.

Ben Francis: Gymshark and fitness apparel

Francis and Lewis Morgan began by selling supplements online before moving into fitness clothing and building Gymshark. Forbes said Francis retained a 70% stake and was the company’s CEO at the time of publication. That stake and role are historical details reported in the 2024 article, not claims about his current position or ownership.

What the ranking does—and does not—tell you

  • It is a dated snapshot: the ages, roles, stakes and net-worth estimates above refer to Forbes’ 2024 article.
  • It is not a current wealth leaderboard: Forbes’ estimates can change as company values and other financial circumstances change.
  • The paths are distinct: the article connects Collison to payments software, Spiegel to social media and Francis to fitness apparel, rather than comparing three directly equivalent businesses.
