To track UPI spending across apps, check the transaction history in every UPI app you used, then compare those entries with your linked bank account’s transaction record and bank SMS alerts. To check whether you paid twice, compare the recipient, amount, time, status and transaction reference—not just the amount. Treat a repeat as a possible duplicate until you confirm that both entries resulted in completed debits.
How to review UPI spending across multiple apps
Each UPI app has its own transaction history, so one app’s list may not show activity from another. Start by listing the UPI apps and linked bank accounts you used during the period you want to check.
- Open each app’s transaction history. NPCI’s UPI FAQ says: “Go to Home Screen ->Transaction History, to view all your past and pending transactions.” The precise menu wording may differ by app.
- Record the entries in one manual log. For each transaction, note the date and time, amount, recipient or merchant, linked bank account, app, status and transaction or reference number if shown. This is a practical way to consolidate records, not a format required by NPCI.
- Check the bank’s records. Compare the app entries with the bank account’s transaction history or statement, and review bank SMS confirmations. NPCI says a successful transaction should show as successful in BHIM and that a bank SMS should arrive, while noting that confirmation can sometimes take longer.
These are two useful recordkeeping approaches, with different trade-offs:
| Approach | Coverage | Verification | Auditability | Effort |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Review each app separately | Covers activity only if you check every app you used | Requires a separate comparison with bank records | Details remain in each app; capture reference IDs and statuses when needed | Repeated checks across apps |
| Keep a consolidated manual log | Can combine entries from all apps you include | Can be matched against bank-posted debits | One place to retain dates, statuses and reference IDs | Requires entering and reconciling the details |
The official sources cited here do not establish universal automatic cross-app aggregation. A single manual log is a straightforward option when you want one view of your spending.

How to check whether you paid twice on UPI
Two entries for the same amount close together can be a clue, but they do not by themselves prove a duplicate. Compare the details for both entries and confirm what posted to your bank account.
- Recipient or merchant: Check whether both entries refer to the same payee.
- Date and time: Compare when each transaction was initiated.
- Status: Check whether each is completed, pending or failed.
- Bank debit: Look for corresponding debits in the bank’s transaction record and confirmations in bank SMS.
- Transaction or reference ID: Compare the IDs where available; distinct references can help identify separate attempts.
If one entry is pending or failed, do not treat it as a confirmed second payment solely because it appears in the app. NPCI’s UPI HELP guidance includes “Duplicate / Multiple Transaction” as a reason to raise an issue.

What to do with pending or failed entries
An app status and a bank debit may not update at the same moment. NPCI’s FAQ says failed UPI debits are to be refunded and advises contacting the bank if a refund has not arrived within one hour. It also describes pending remittances that may be delayed at the beneficiary bank, with a possible 48-hour credit interval. These are FAQ guidance, not a guarantee that every case will resolve on those exact timelines; check the current status with your bank.
The RBI’s September 20, 2019 circular establishes turnaround-time and customer-compensation principles for failed transactions in covered domestic payment systems, including UPI. It defines a failed transaction by incomplete execution for reasons not attributable to the customer. The applicable turnaround time depends on the transaction type, so do not assume a single deadline applies to every UPI case.

How to raise a UPI complaint
For a suspected duplicate or a transaction whose status is unclear, start with the UPI app or bank through which you can access the transaction details. NPCI says transaction-status checks and grievances can be raised through participating banks’ UPI apps. BHIM provides transaction history and reporting for declined transactions.
NPCI’s complaint portal can route eligible issues to the relevant member bank or institution. It also supports status follow-up using transaction details or a complaint reference. Keep the transaction or reference ID and relevant dates handy when contacting support.

What to do if a UPI payment may be fraud
Contact your bank promptly if you suspect fraud or an unauthorised payment. NPCI’s complaint guidance directs fraud and unauthorised-transaction reports to the respective bank. Never share your UPI PIN; NPCI says bank customer support will never ask for it.
