Not as a generally available offer. Xbox documented a $1 first month of Game Pass Ultimate in 2019, but its current U.S. plan page does not show that offer for Ultimate. It says to sign in to see available offers, which may vary by account, subscriber status, region and time. Check the offer shown on your own account before upgrading.
Is the $1 Game Pass Ultimate upgrade available now?
Xbox’s current U.S. Game Pass page shows a $1 first month for Essential and a $1 first 14 days for Premium, but lists a monthly price for Ultimate. Those lower-tier introductory offers are not evidence of a $1 Ultimate offer. Xbox says promotional offers may be limited to new subscribers, may not apply to every subscriber, may be available only in select regions and are available for a limited time. The offer displayed after signing in is the relevant one for your account. Check Xbox’s current plans and offers.
Why the $1 Ultimate promotion appears in older coverage
On July 17, 2019, Xbox announced a promotion in which new members and existing Xbox Live Gold and Game Pass for Console members could get their first month of Ultimate for $1. Xbox also gave a conversion example: six months of Gold plus three months of Game Pass for Console became ten months of Ultimate after upgrading. That was a specific 2019 promotion and conversion description, not current eligibility, pricing or conversion policy. Read Xbox’s 2019 announcement.
What Ultimate costs after an introductory offer
Xbox announced that the standard monthly price of Game Pass Ultimate in the United States would fall from $29.99 to $22.99 on April 21, 2026. Xbox notes that prices may vary by region, so $22.99 is not a universal price guarantee. See Xbox’s April 2026 price announcement.

Xbox’s offer disclosure says a credit card is required for promotional offers. After the promotional period, a subscription automatically continues at the then-current regular price plus applicable taxes unless canceled. Recurring billing is on by default; Xbox says it can be turned off through a Microsoft account or console. Confirm the amount and renewal date shown during sign-up, and decide whether to cancel before the promotion ends if you do not want the subscription to continue.
How to decide whether Ultimate is worth the recurring price
Compare the features you expect to use with the cost that applies after any introductory period. Xbox’s current U.S. plan descriptions list:
Rank #2
- Ideal for Gifting
- Ideal for a bookworm
- Compact for travelling
| Plan | Catalog and timing | Cloud gaming | Offer wording shown |
|---|---|---|---|
| Essential | 50+ games; online console multiplayer | 5 hours per month | First month for $1 |
| Premium | 200+ games; Xbox-published releases arrive within one year | 10 hours per month | First 14 days for $1 |
| Ultimate | 500+ games; day-one releases; EA Play, Fortnite Crew and Ubisoft+ Classics | 15 hours per month | Monthly price; no general $1 Ultimate offer stated |
These descriptions and offer wording are from Xbox’s U.S. plan page accessed October 4, 2026. Xbox says features and game availability vary over time, by region, plan and platform. Review the current plan details.
- Choose based on whether day-one releases matter to you or you are comfortable waiting for Xbox-published games.
- Count only the catalog games and included services you expect to use.
- Consider the listed monthly cloud gaming hours if you plan to play that way.
- Compare the plan’s recurring price—not just its introductory offer—with your budget.
Do you need a controller to claim an offer?
No. A controller does not affect subscription eligibility. It is optional hardware for a particular use case: Xbox identifies a compatible controller as part of cloud gaming on a TV or supported device, and lists Xbox controllers among the options. See Xbox’s TV cloud gaming setup information.
