The best PS5 Black Friday buy is not necessarily the console with the biggest discount: compare the exact model, bundle contents and regional offer terms before deciding. The Tom’s Guide article behind this title was last updated December 1, 2024, so its prices are historical—not live 2026 deals. Sony’s official promotions show that savings can cover consoles, games, controllers, VR, accessories and PlayStation Plus, with availability varying by region and retailer.
What this PS5 Black Friday guide can—and cannot—tell you
The Tom’s Guide roundup was last updated on December 1, 2024. It listed the PS5 Slim Digital Edition at $374 and the Disc Edition at $424, alongside offers on PSVR2 and DualSense controllers. Those are examples from that 2024 roundup, not prices to expect now. Read the dated roundup.
The available official announcements provide useful snapshots of past promotions, but not a complete, comparable price history for every PS5 model and bundle. That means they cannot establish a reliable all-time-low price or prove that a particular sale was the best ever. A deal is only comparable when the console model, bundle contents, region and sale terms match.
How official PlayStation Black Friday promotions changed
| Year | What PlayStation announced | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| 2020 | Sony set US launch RRPs at $399.99 for PS5 Digital Edition and $499.99 for the Ultra HD Blu-ray disc-drive model. | Launch prices are a baseline, not Black Friday discounts. Sony’s launch announcement. |
| 2022 | PlayStation advertised 25% off 12-month PlayStation Plus plans, promoted DualSense controllers and accessories, and ran its Store Black Friday offer from November 18 through November 28, local time. The announcement did not specify a US console discount. | The offer covered subscriptions and store products; it does not establish a console price. PlayStation’s 2022 announcement. |
| 2023 | The November 17–27 promotion included PS5 console/game bundles, DualSense controllers, console covers, games and subscription savings of up to 30% on eligible 12-month PlayStation Plus plans. | Sony said participation and offers varied by region and retailer. PlayStation’s 2023 announcement. |
| 2024 | PlayStation promoted PS5 consoles and the Fortnite Cobalt Star Bundle, PSVR2, DualSense controllers, Pulse Elite headsets, Pulse Explore earbuds, covers, games and PlayStation Plus. It advertised up to 30% off 12-month PlayStation Plus for new members. | Offers varied by region and retailer. PlayStation’s 2024 announcement. |
| 2025 | Sony listed RRPs of $399.99 for the 825GB PS5 Digital Edition Fortnite Flowering Chaos Bundle and $449.99 for the 1TB PS5 Console Fortnite Flowering Chaos Bundle. In select regions, it also announced $100 off PS5 and PS5 Digital Edition consoles and $100 off PS5 Pro. Accessory examples included $100 off PSVR2, $20 off PlayStation Portal and DualSense, $20 off Pulse Elite and $30 off Pulse Explore. Eligible 12-month PlayStation Plus memberships had savings of up to 33% in participating countries. | These were 2025 event prices and promotions, not 2026 live offers. Sony specified that promotions varied by region and retailer. PlayStation’s 2025 announcement. |
Choosing between a PS5 Disc and Digital Edition
Start with how you expect to buy and play games. A Disc Edition is the practical comparison point if you own physical PS5 games or want the option to buy them. The original Tom’s Guide roundup recommended the disc model on the grounds that physical PS5 games are often discounted; treat that as the author’s shopping advice, not a guaranteed saving on every title or in every market.

#1 Best Overall
Digital Edition avoids the disc drive, so its value depends more heavily on the price of the console and the games you buy digitally. Compare the models’ actual prices at checkout rather than assuming one is always the better deal. Sony’s US launch RRPs in 2020—$399.99 for Digital Edition and $499.99 for the disc-drive model—are historical launch figures, not current prices or Black Friday targets. Sony’s 2020 announcement.
How to judge a console bundle
A bundle is worth considering when its included content is something you actually want. Before comparing it with a bare console, check the model, storage, included game or other content, and the price of those items if bought separately. A higher bundle price can still be the better value, but only if the additions are useful to you.

- Match the model: Check whether it is Digital or Disc, and whether the listing identifies a specific storage capacity.
- Identify every extra: Distinguish a game or downloadable content from a second controller or other hardware; do not treat bundle contents as interchangeable.
- Compare like with like: Use the same region and currency, and compare the bundle against the same console model without extras.
- Check the terms: Confirm the seller, stock, offer dates, returns and whether the advertised price requires a membership or other condition.
Don’t overlook games, controllers, VR and subscriptions
Console savings are only one part of the Black Friday picture. PlayStation’s 2022–2025 announcements show recurring promotions across games, DualSense controllers and PlayStation Plus, with 2024 and 2025 also highlighting PSVR2 and other accessories. This gives shoppers more options, but does not mean each category will have the same discount—or any particular offer—in a given year.
Games and DualSense controllers
Compare the exact game edition and controller model, not just the product name in a headline. For a game, check whether it is physical or digital and whether the edition includes the content you want. For a controller, verify that the listing is for the DualSense model you intend to buy and compare its final price with the same model elsewhere.

PSVR2, headsets, earbuds, console covers and PlayStation Portal have appeared in official promotions. Check whether a listing is for the headset alone or a bundle, and confirm the exact accessory model before treating prices as comparable. The 2025 announcement’s accessory discounts applied to that event and, where stated, select regions; they should not be read as ongoing prices.
PlayStation Plus
Subscription promotions have changed by year and eligibility: PlayStation announced 25% off 12-month plans in 2022, up to 30% off eligible 12-month plans in 2023, up to 30% off for new members in 2024, and up to 33% on eligible memberships in participating countries in 2025. Check whether an offer applies to new or existing members, which membership term it covers, and whether the country is included. 2022 terms, 2023 terms, 2024 terms, 2025 terms.

A quick checklist before you buy
- Confirm the date: Check that the offer is live and note when it ends. Historical roundup prices are not current listings.
- Confirm your market: Sony says offers can vary by region and retailer; check the local PlayStation announcement and the retailer’s own listing.
- Verify the exact product: Match console edition, storage, bundle contents, game edition or accessory model.
- Compare the complete price: Include shipping, taxes where shown, required memberships and any items you would otherwise need to buy separately.
- Check the seller and terms: Confirm stock, return conditions and any eligibility restrictions before checkout.
Sony’s official Black Friday archive includes announcement posts from multiple years, but it is not a model-by-model price database.
