Contemporaneous reports estimated Canelo Alvarez’s total earnings for his September 14, 2024, fight with Edgar Berlanga at about $65–66 million, including a reported $35 million guarantee. Berlanga’s reported estimate was about $30 million, including a reported $17.5 million guarantee—but Berlanga disputed the $30 million total. These are media estimates, not confirmed final payouts; the Nevada State Athletic Commission’s result sheet does not list either fighter’s purse.
What were the reported purses?
The figures widely reported around the bout distinguish a guaranteed amount from a larger estimate that may include revenue shares. They should not be read as verified payments or as after-tax income.
| Fighter | Reported guarantee | Reported total estimate | What the source says |
|---|---|---|---|
| Canelo Alvarez | $35 million | About $65 million in TyC Sports’ September 15, 2024 report; about $66 million in El Universal’s September 12, 2024 report | TyC Sports and El Universal reported estimates, not an official payout filing. |
| Edgar Berlanga | $17.5 million, as reported by TyC Sports | About $30 million, as estimated by TyC Sports | TyC Sports reported both figures. AS USA reported that Berlanga said the $30 million estimate was too high. |
For Alvarez, TyC Sports attributed $17.5 million to broadcast rights and $13.6 million to ticket sales, alongside the $35 million guarantee. Those components total about $66.1 million, which does not exactly match the outlet’s stated estimate of about $65 million. El Universal separately reported an approximate $66 million total and described the same $17.5 million as coming from U.S. pay-per-view and the $13.6 million as Alvarez’s reported 80% share of ticket receipts. These figures are reported estimates, not independently confirmed revenue distributions.
Did Berlanga confirm the $30 million figure?
No. AS USA reported that Berlanga rejected the widely circulated $30 million estimate as too high, while acknowledging that his purse was large. His response does not confirm the separate $17.5 million guarantee reported by TyC Sports. The $30 million amount should therefore be described as a media estimate that Berlanga disputed, not as his confirmed earnings.

Are these confirmed payouts or take-home amounts?
No official final payout amount for either fighter is established by the available commission record. The Nevada State Athletic Commission’s result sheet records the bout and its unanimous-decision result, but contains no purse amounts. The figures above should remain attributed to the outlets that reported them.
A reported guarantee is not the same as an estimated total that includes possible pay-per-view or ticket-revenue shares. Neither figure establishes what a fighter ultimately took home after taxes, management fees, or other deductions.

What fight were the estimates for?
Alvarez and Berlanga fought at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on September 14, 2024. Alvarez won by unanimous decision and retained his WBA, WBC, and WBO super-middleweight titles. MGM Resorts’ July 25 event announcement described the event as a PBC pay-per-view available through Prime Video and DAZN; that announcement documents the original distribution, not whether a replay can still be purchased.
