Where the 2023 list came from

The matching accessible source is Christopher Pfeiffer’s Medium article, “Best No KYC Exchanges For Monero (XMR) in 2023,” published October 5, 2023. The names below are Pfeiffer’s selections; they should not be described as Reddit consensus.
Which services did the article name?
Pfeiffer’s list combined instant-swap services with a peer-to-peer marketplace. The category distinction matters: they can differ in how a trade is arranged, how payment is made, and what protections or risks apply.

Why LocalMonero is no longer an option
LocalMonero’s own shutdown notice says the wind-down began May 7, 2024, new trades were disabled May 14, 2024, and the site was scheduled to be taken down after November 7, 2024. The schedule makes LocalMonero a historical example of a P2P Monero marketplace, not a place to start a trade.
What about Haveno after LocalMonero?
Haveno is a possible comparison point for someone looking at decentralized or peer-to-peer ways to trade for Monero, but the available sources do not establish it as a direct replacement or rank it against the services in Pfeiffer’s list. Its FAQ says the project is mature enough for Monero mainnet use and states, “Haveno is and will always be non-KYC.” That is Haveno’s own platform claim, not a guarantee about every transaction, payment route, or user’s legal circumstances.

A 2025 research paper reports a privacy vulnerability that could allow some Haveno trades to be detected and linked across Monero and Bitcoin. That finding concerns some trades and a specific privacy risk; it does not establish that every trade is identifiable. It does show why “non-KYC” and transaction privacy are separate questions.

The cited material does not establish current country access, fees, liquidity, payment methods, identity-check triggers, or refund and dispute rules across the named services. Before sending funds, check the provider’s live terms and the specific XMR trade route rather than relying on a 2023 list.
- Direction and route: Confirm that the service supports the exact asset pair and trade direction you need, including whether you can buy XMR with your intended payment method.
- Jurisdiction: Verify that the service currently accepts users in your country and that the payment method is available there.
- Identity and AML checks: Read the conditions that can trigger identity requests, transaction reviews, holds, or cancellations. A “no-KYC” label does not establish that no review can ever occur.
- Custody and escrow: Determine who controls funds during the trade, whether escrow is used, and what happens if a counterparty does not pay or a transfer is delayed.
- Total cost: Compare the final quoted amount, spread, network costs, and any service or payment fees. Check whether the quote is fixed or can change before settlement.
- Liquidity and minimums: Check the amount available for your trade and any minimum or maximum. A route listed on a site may not have enough liquidity for the amount you need.
- Settlement, refunds, and disputes: Understand expected settlement steps and the provider’s documented process for failed, delayed, or disputed payments before committing funds.
- Privacy limits: Consider what information the platform, payment provider, counterparty, and blockchain may expose. Non-KYC access does not by itself make a transaction anonymous.
John Foss, editor of The Monero Moon newsletter, put the practical caution plainly in its October 10, 2023, Issue 62: “As is always the case, do your own research and exercise caution whenever using an unfamiliar exchange service.”
