How do I link my bank account to PayPal?
These steps describe PayPal’s US web flow. Labels and options can vary by country, account type, and bank; the bank search shown after you sign in is the practical way to see what is available for your account.
- Sign in to PayPal and open Wallet.
- Select Link a card or bank, then Link a bank account.
- Search for your bank or choose it from the list.
- Choose an available linking method and follow the on-screen prompts.
- If PayPal asks you to confirm the account, complete that step before using it to make payments.
PayPal says a US account can have up to eight linked bank accounts. Check the live help page for the current limit and availability: PayPal’s US bank-linking instructions.
Choose instant linking or manual entry

Instant linking means providing bank login details as part of the flow; manual entry avoids entering those login details there but may require waiting for deposits or another confirmation method. The available material does not establish that either route is inherently safer. PayPal’s wording for the manual option is: “If you don’t want to enter your login details to link your bank, you can click Link your bank another way.”

How do I confirm a PayPal bank account in the US?
For the US manual process, PayPal says it sends two temporary deposits, each between $0.01 and $0.99, within three business days. Check your bank statement for the exact amounts, then:
- Open PayPal’s Wallet.
- Select the linked bank account.
- Enter both deposit amounts exactly and submit them.
The deposits are temporary and will be removed. If they have not arrived after the stated period, PayPal says to request a resend from Wallet. If your bank combines the two deposits into one, PayPal advises contacting support or trying instant linking. See PayPal’s US bank-confirmation instructions.

Why the steps differ outside the US
PayPal’s instructions are localized. Confirmation timing, account eligibility, payment authorization, and menu names should not be assumed to match the US flow.

What to do if your bank or option is missing
- Check the bank search inside PayPal after signing in; bank-by-bank instant-link compatibility is not established in the published instructions.
- If you do not see the same labels or instant option, do not guess at a substitute path. Open the PayPal Help Center for the country where your account is registered and check guidance for your account type.
- For manual US linking, use Wallet to request another deposit if the confirmation deposits do not appear, or contact PayPal if your bank combines them.
The linked account may not be ready for every use as soon as it appears in Wallet. In the US, PayPal says bank confirmation is required before using the account to make payments; in the UK, payment use requires accepting the Direct Debit Mandate.
