Only one identified lot was involved: Handsome Brook Farms voluntarily recalled 10,800 retail units of Kirkland Signature Organic Pasture Raised 24-Count Eggs because they could potentially be contaminated with Salmonella. The eggs were distributed to 25 Costco stores in five states. The recalled lot’s use-by date was January 5, 2025, so this is a historical, lot-specific warning—not a notice that all Kirkland or Costco eggs are affected.
Which Costco eggs were recalled?
The FDA-posted announcement identifies the product as Kirkland Signature Organic Pasture Raised 24-Count Eggs, recalled by Handsome Brook Farms. To identify a carton, check all three details:
- UPC: 9661910680
- Julian code: 327
- Use-by date: January 5, 2025
The company said distribution to 25 Costco stores in Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee began November 22, 2024. Its notice says no other products were impacted by this recall. See the FDA-posted recall announcement for the product details.
Why were the eggs recalled?
Handsome Brook Farms said the eggs had the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. The company explained that it initiated the recall after determining that eggs not intended for retail distribution had instead been packaged and distributed in retail packaging. That is the company’s stated explanation in the announcement; it should not be read as a separate FDA finding that every carton was contaminated.

The announcement said, “To date there are no illness complaints.” That was the company’s status statement as of its November 27, 2024 publication, not a current illness count.
What does the Class I warning mean?
FDA describes recall classifications as an indication of the relative degree of health hazard. In the independent index of FDA recall records, this event is identified as FDA recall F-0314-2025 and marked Class I and terminated. The FDA company-announcement page confirms the product and original recall details but does not itself display that event-level classification.

A Class I label is a hazard classification; it does not establish that every egg in the named lot was contaminated or that illnesses occurred. FDA explains that a firm may announce a voluntary recall before the agency completes its risk assessment and assigns a classification. The agency’s Enforcement Reports explanation describes that process. The event’s Class I and terminated fields can be checked in the independent recall-record index.

- November 22, 2024: Distribution to the affected Costco stores began, according to the company announcement.
- November 26, 2024: The independent index lists this as the recall date for FDA record F-0314-2025.
- November 27, 2024: Handsome Brook Farms’ announcement was published by FDA, reporting the voluntary recall of 10,800 retail units.
- January 5, 2025: The use-by date printed for the affected lot.
The November 26 index date and November 27 announcement date are separate source fields, not interchangeable publication dates.
What should consumers do now?
The original notice instructed consumers not to consume cartons matching the identifiers and to return them to Costco for a full refund or dispose of them. Because the listed use-by date has passed, the warning concerns an expired historical lot. It does not establish that current Costco eggs or other Kirkland egg products are affected. For a present-day recall, check a current Costco or FDA notice rather than relying on this older announcement.
Rank #4
Does this affect all Costco or Kirkland eggs?
No. The notice names one 24-count organic pasture-raised product and provides a UPC, Julian code and use-by date. It also says that no other products were impacted by this recall. The Class I classification applies to this recall event, not to every egg sold by Costco or every product under the Kirkland Signature brand.
