How Much Does an Airbus A380 Cost?

There is no new-build A380 price today. Airbus’s 2018 Emirates commitment offers a historical list-price benchmark, not a confirmed sale price or used-market value.

There is no new-build Airbus A380 price today: Airbus ended production in 2021. The clearest historical benchmark is a 2018 Airbus valuation of Emirates’ commitment for 20 A380s, plus an option for 16 more, at US$16 billion at latest list prices. Dividing that total by 36 gives about US$444 million per aircraft—but that is an implied list-price average, not a confirmed sale price or current market value.

What the historical A380 price figure means

In January 2018, Airbus said Emirates’ commitment for 20 aircraft, with an option for 16 more, was valued at US$16 billion at the latest list prices. Airbus described the deal as covering up to 36 aircraft, with deliveries scheduled to begin in 2020. Airbus’s announcement is the strongest published benchmark for the aircraft’s price.

Dividing US$16 billion by 36 yields approximately US$444.4 million per aircraft. That calculation treats the full commitment and option as a 36-aircraft total; it is not a unit price Airbus quoted, nor evidence of what Emirates ultimately paid. The announcement gives a list-price valuation, not confidential negotiated prices, financial terms, or a breakdown of the option’s final treatment.

Can you buy a new Airbus A380?

No. Airbus identifies December 2021 as the end of A380 production and the delivery of the 123rd and final aircraft to Emirates. Its current passenger-aircraft page says the company no longer produces the A380, while continuing to support airlines that operate it. The 2018 figure is therefore a historical benchmark, not a current new-aircraft offer.

How much does a used A380 cost?

No current used-A380 asking price or completed sale price is established by the official sources cited here, so a defensible current dollar figure cannot be given. A used aircraft’s value can vary with its age, condition, maintenance status, configuration, records, and the terms negotiated by a particular buyer and seller. An online estimate without a verifiable current listing or transaction should not be treated as a market price.

Purchase price is only one part of the cost

The cost to acquire an aircraft is different from the cost to own and operate it over time. Emirates’ 2024–25 annual report describes airline-wide expenses including fuel and employee costs; its direct operating-cost categories include handling, aircraft maintenance, in-flight catering and services, overflying, landing and parking, and crew layovers. These categories give context for the expenses an airline manages, but they do not establish an A380-specific operating cost per hour or total cost of ownership. Engine support is another long-term consideration. In November 2025, Emirates announced an agreement with Rolls-Royce for its own facility to perform maintenance, repair and overhaul work on Trent 900 engines powering its A380 fleet from 2027, alongside an extension of TotalCare support into the 2040s. The announcement describes the support arrangement, but gives no price from which to calculate an engine-maintenance bill. Emirates’ announcement
