That is the reported maximum intraday decline—not a confirmed closing-day loss. The report documents the drop and the company’s route to the public market, but does not establish why investors sold.
What happened to NorthStar stock?
NorthStar Earth & Space Inc., a Montreal-based space-surveillance company, began trading on the NYSE under ticker NSTR after completing a merger with blank-check company Viking Acquisition Corp. I, according to Bloomberg reporting syndicated by Yahoo Finance UK.
Bloomberg said the stock fell as much as 45% on its first trading day. At 1:46 p.m. New York time, it reported a share price of $4.35 and a market capitalization of $39.8 million. Those are intraday figures, not the closing quote, final-day return or closing valuation. No independent end-of-day quote was available in the reporting cited here.
Why did shares fall?
The available report does not identify a proven cause. It would be speculation to say the selloff was caused by NorthStar’s valuation, share redemptions, liquidity, business performance or any other single factor.
#1 Best Overall
The transaction details provide context, not an explanation: most public shares in Viking were reportedly redeemed before the merger, leaving a small amount in its trust account. Bloomberg did not provide a redemption count or the company’s post-merger cash balance. The report also said the deal valued NorthStar at a $300 million pre-money equity valuation and included a $30 million private investment in public equity (PIPE), backed by Cartesian Capital Group and other institutional investors.
A pre-money deal valuation and a later intraday market capitalization are different measures, taken at different points and under different circumstances. The $39.8 million figure reported at 1:46 p.m. should not be treated as the transaction’s valuation or as a closing market value.

What NorthStar sells
NorthStar combines satellite sensors with imagery processing, data and artificial intelligence to identify and anticipate the positions of objects in space, with the aim of helping address collision threats, Bloomberg reported. Its named customers included the Royal Canadian Air Force and North American and European military entities, indicating an institutional and government-facing business rather than a consumer service.
On a historical company page, NorthStar described its commercial service as Skylark and said it was intended to monitor Low Earth Orbit, Medium Earth Orbit, Geostationary Orbit and parts of cislunar space. That page records the company’s past positioning; it is not independent confirmation of the service’s current operational coverage.

What the reported financial figures do—and do not—show
Bloomberg reported that NorthStar had received about $100 million in capital and was on track to generate more than $30 million in 2026 revenue. The revenue figure is a company forecast reported by Bloomberg, not audited revenue already earned. The available report does not supply an audited revenue figure or a verified post-merger cash balance.
For investors, the key distinctions are between an intraday low and the closing return, a pre-money transaction valuation and a market capitalization measured after trading began, and projected revenue and realized results. The reported numbers do not, on their own, establish whether the company can meet its forecast or explain the first-day share move.
