That is not the current price shown by every seller: Best Buy Canada says its console price increased to $679.99 on September 1, 2026. Treat $629.99 as the launch MSRP and check the seller’s live listing before buying.
Is the Nintendo Switch 2 still $629 in Canada?
No—not according to Best Buy Canada’s category-page statement. Nintendo announced the standalone console at a Canadian suggested retail price of $629.99 ahead of its June 5, 2025 launch. Best Buy Canada says the price increased from that MSRP to $679.99 effective September 1, 2026. That is a retailer’s stated price, not evidence that every Canadian seller charges $679.99 or that Nintendo announced a new nationwide MSRP. Nintendo’s launch announcement and Best Buy Canada’s category page identify the respective prices and dates.
What did the launch bundle cost?
Nintendo announced a Switch 2 plus Mario Kart World bundle at $699.99 CAD for launch. It included the console and a digital download code for Mario Kart World. This is the announced launch price; check the seller’s current listing for today’s bundle price, availability, and exact contents. When comparing it with the standalone console, account for the game’s format: this bundle’s game was a digital code, not a packaged copy.
What comes in the console box?

What other costs should Canadian buyers consider?
Games vary in price and format
There is no single fixed price to add for a game. Nintendo says new Nintendo-published digital titles exclusive to Switch 2 beginning in May 2026 may have a different MSRP from their physical versions, while retail partners set their own prices. Check the specific game, format, seller, and current listing rather than assuming a digital code and packaged version cost the same. Nintendo Support’s game-pricing information describes this policy.

- Ideal for a bookworm
- Compact for travelling
Storage requires a compatible card
The console has 256 GB of internal storage. If you need additional storage, Nintendo specifies microSD Express cards; older microSD cards are not the stated expansion format for Switch 2. Confirm a card’s compatibility before buying.
Tax and delivery depend on checkout
The cited prices are product prices, not a nationwide after-tax total. The amount you pay can depend on the seller and your checkout, including applicable taxes and delivery charges. Review the final total before placing an order.

How to compare the real purchase cost
- Choose the package: Decide whether you want the standalone system or a bundle, and identify whether any included game is a digital code or packaged copy.
- Compare current listings: Check the same package and contents across sellers, including stock and the price shown at the time of purchase.
- Include optional needs: Add any case, screen protector, compatible microSD Express card, or games you actually plan to buy.
- Check the checkout total: Compare the final amount after taxes and delivery, not just the advertised console price.
Nintendo also says compatible physical and digital games from the original Switch library work on Switch 2, although some titles may be unsupported or not fully compatible. If you plan to rely on an existing game library, check compatibility for the specific games you own.
