January 2026 sale prices are historical, not live offers. The January sales period has ended, so the examples below show what UK deal roundups reported at the time—not what a shopper can buy for those prices now. Check a retailer’s current listing, stock, seller, delivery and returns before spending.
What happened to the January 2026 sales?
January deal coverage included technology, appliances, homeware, fashion, beauty and fitness, with retailers such as Amazon UK, Argos, Currys, John Lewis, Decathlon, M&S, Boots, Selfridges, Wayfair and AO appearing in roundups. Their inclusion in seasonal coverage does not mean they have a January sale running now.
For context, the Office for National Statistics reported that online sales values rose 1.3% month on month and 14.7% year on year in January 2026. Online sales represented 28.2% of total sales that month, compared with 28.3% in December 2025. The ONS said the annual increase was the largest since April 2021, with the comparison affected by a fall in online sales in January 2025. These figures describe retail sales, not the size or quality of sale discounts. ONS January 2026 retail sales.

How to judge a sale price before you buy
A markdown label or a high percentage off does not show whether an offer is good value. Compare the exact item and the whole transaction, not just the headline figure.
- Match the product precisely. Check model number, size, colour and configuration. Similar product names can conceal meaningful differences.
- Check its price history and other sellers. Which? recommends shopping around and checking price histories. It names PriceRunner, PriceSpy and CamelCamelCamel as services that can help track prices; item-specific alerts can show how a price moves.
- Confirm who is selling it. Check whether the retailer itself or a marketplace seller fulfils the order, especially if you do not recognise the seller. Which? advises checking unfamiliar retailers rather than assuming an unknown brand is either safe or poor.
- Compare the complete cost and terms. Include delivery charges and timing, return conditions and warranty details. Check whether the price depends on a code, membership or other condition.
- Read reviews critically. Which? flags batches of reviews posted around the same time, overly effusive praise and repeated phrases as possible warning signs. A verified-purchaser label alone does not guarantee a review is authentic.

When in January is it worth shopping?
JanuarySales describes a general seasonal trade-off: early January tends to offer more choice, while discounts may deepen later as retailers clear stock. That is not a prediction for any particular product, and a later markdown can come with less choice or no stock in the size or configuration you want. Its calendar marks the 2026 period inactive and historical: JanuarySales calendar and guidance.

Because January 2026 has passed, treat retailer names in old roundups as places to check, not recommendations that their sale pages are active. For a current purchase, open the retailer’s live product listing and verify its price, availability and terms at checkout. A historical deal—or a sale label that remains online—cannot confirm a current offer.
