The events were planned for the same day President Donald Trump was slated to host a military parade in Washington. The date has passed; the story is about the 2025 advertisement, not a current call to attend those events.
What did the advertisement ask readers to do?
Forbes reported that Walton, whom it described as a Walmart heiress, paid for a full-page advertisement in the print edition of The New York Times. It urged readers to “mobilize” for No Kings events and included the words “No Kings.” Forbes said the advertisement ran nationwide.
The ad listed eight principles, including caring for veterans and children, defending against aggression by dictators, and upholding the Constitution. Forbes reported that the advertisement did not name Trump directly.
Forbes described the events as protests opposing Trump, but the advertisement’s wording, as reported, called readers to No Kings events and civic principles rather than naming the president.

How many events were planned?
Forbes reported that No Kings spokesperson Andrew Cook said more than 1,800 events were planned nationwide for June 14. That is an organizer’s planned-event figure relayed by Forbes, not an independently audited count or a measure of attendance.
The group was not planning an event in Washington, D.C. Forbes linked that choice to an organizing message to “make action everywhere else,” while Trump was slated to host a military parade in the capital that day.

Was the advertisement connected to Walmart?
No. Walmart global press office director Joe Pennington told Forbes that “the advertisement from Christy Walton are in no way connected to or endorsed by Walmart.” Forbes also reported that Walton was not on Walmart’s board and did not participate in its decision-making at the time. The ad should therefore be understood as Walton’s personal expenditure, not a Walmart corporate campaign.
Forbes separately attributed the description of the ad as a “personal message” encouraging peaceful and civic engagement to an unnamed person familiar with Walton’s thinking. That characterization was attributed to that source, not independently verified as Walton’s own stated explanation.

What is the connection to No Kings today?
The June 14, 2025 events are historical. No Kings’ website, accessed October 3, 2026, describes a later voter-participation campaign and lists a nationwide day of action for October 17, 2026. Its current site also states: “A core principle behind all No Kings events is a commitment to nonviolent action and no civil disobedience.” That is present-day site language; it is not a quotation from Walton’s 2025 newspaper ad or evidence of conditions at the 2025 events.
Forbes’ reporting on the advertisement and planned events appeared June 10, 2025, and was updated June 11, 2025. It identified the payer, reported the organizer’s planned-event estimate and quoted Walmart’s denial of corporate involvement.
