SquareTrade—now presented to consumers as Allstate Protection Plans—may be worth buying when the exact plan covers a costly failure or accident you want to insure against, and its premium, deductible and claim limits make financial sense. There is no universal yes or no: coverage depends on the plan, product and retailer, and available evidence does not establish typical claim approval rates or prove the plans are worthwhile for an average customer.
What does SquareTrade cover?
Start by identifying whether the offer is a Standard Plan or an Accident Plan. Allstate says Standard Plans cover product breakdowns and malfunctions during normal use. Accident Plans include that protection and add accidents such as drops and spills. The coverage page also lists intentional damage, loss, theft and commercial use as exclusions to its general coverage. Your purchased plan’s terms control, and exclusions can vary by contract.
A protection plan may overlap with the manufacturer’s warranty. Allstate says manufacturer warranties often handle issues they cover during their term; a protection plan may apply to an issue outside that warranty if it is covered by the plan. The provider describes common manufacturer warranties as lasting 90 days to one year, but check the warranty for your specific product rather than relying on that general range.
What will you pay if you make a claim?
Compare the whole potential cost, not just the advertised premium. Add the plan price to any deductible, then consider the coverage limit, term, and whether the plan pays for the kind of failure or accident you are concerned about. The published multi-product contract caps repair or replacement costs at the per-claim coverage amount. Retailer and product-specific contracts may differ.

One price example is not a general SquareTrade quote: Allstate’s Whole Home Protection page displayed an offer of $23.99 per month with a $129 deductible when accessed in 2026. That offer applies to that particular plan, which covers eligible electronics old or new and excludes smartphones and appliances. Check the current offer and eligibility before relying on those details.
For any plan you are considering, check these terms against the product and alternatives:
Rank #2
- Ideal for Gifting
- Ideal for a bookworm
- Compact for travelling
- Total premium over the term, plus any deductible or other claim costs.
- When coverage begins, how long it lasts, and whether it overlaps with the manufacturer warranty.
- Whether it covers breakdowns only or also accidental damage.
- Eligible products, permitted use and geographic limits.
- Exclusions, the per-claim limit and any other coverage caps.
- Proof or documentation required to support a claim.
- Whether the contract permits repair, replacement or reimbursement, and under what conditions.
Compare plans only when the products, terms and benefits are sufficiently similar. A generic SquareTrade price is not a fair comparison with a retailer’s offer if the coverage differs.
How do claims and repairs work?
Allstate says customers can file claims online, and that many are approved instantly; other cases may require help from a specialist. The provider says it may repair an item or, if it cannot, send a replacement or reimburse one. Those are possible outcomes, not guaranteed remedies for every claim: the plan page makes them subject to terms and conditions.

Keep the purchase receipt and plan documents. The multi-product contract requires proof of purchase, expects the owner to maintain and use the product as instructed, and allows Allstate to request photos or other supporting documentation. Follow the instructions in your own contract, since terms can vary.
What if the item cannot be repaired?
Allstate’s stated options include sending a replacement or reimbursing the customer for one if the item cannot be repaired. The contract and claim decision govern what happens in a particular case, so do not assume that reimbursement will match the original purchase price or that a replacement will be identical. Check the purchased plan’s remedy and limits before buying.

What do complaints and ratings tell you?
BBB records reviewed in December 2025 include individual 2026 complaints and company responses involving disputes about covered damage, repair scheduling or communication, and whether commercial equipment had the appropriate commercial plan. Some responses describe a refund or another resolution. These accounts point to issues worth checking—especially plan fit, written terms and documentation—but they are not a random sample and do not establish how often claims are approved, denied or delayed.
Allstate’s provider page displays ratings from Google, Apple and Consumer Affairs, along with selected testimonials, but it does not provide a clear survey method or date for those figures. They should not be treated as representative evidence of claim outcomes. The available source material does not establish a representative approval, denial, repair, replacement, reimbursement or satisfaction rate.

When is SquareTrade worth considering?
A plan is more plausible as a good value if it covers a repair or accidental-damage risk that would be expensive for you to absorb, does not duplicate protection you already have, and has a premium, deductible and limits you find acceptable. It is less compelling if the relevant damage is excluded, the manufacturer warranty already covers the main risk during the plan term, or the total cost is high relative to the likely repair expense. Decide using the actual contract and your own alternatives—not the brand name or a headline price alone.
