There isn’t enough verified product testing to name nine belt bags as this publication’s “best” picks. The available official specifications do support a useful comparison: the Lululemon Everywhere Belt Bag and Osprey Daylite Mini are compact 1L options, while Patagonia’s Black Hole Waist Pack offers 5L capacity and outdoor-oriented features. The right choice depends on what you carry, how the bag fits, and where you’ll use it.
How to choose a belt bag
A belt bag, fanny pack, waist pack, or hip pack can be worn at the waist or across the body, depending on its strap and your preference. Before choosing one, consider these factors:
- Capacity and dimensions: A 1L pack is suited to essentials. A larger pack can carry more, but check its measurements as well as its stated volume.
- Fit: Compare the strap’s adjustment range and width, and consider whether you plan to wear the bag around your waist or crossbody. A fit description aimed at smaller bodies may be useful if standard packs feel oversized.
- Organization: Check the number and placement of pockets, zipper access, and whether the layout suits the things you reach for often.
- Activity: Errands and travel may call for a compact design; running or outdoor use may benefit from a different fit, more room, or features such as bottle pockets.
- Materials and weather protection: “Water-repellent” does not establish that a bag is waterproof. Check the product’s stated materials and protection rather than assuming it will keep contents dry in heavy rain.

Which size should you choose?
Choose 1L for a compact everyday carry
The Lululemon and Osprey examples are both listed at 1L. That capacity is a reasonable starting point for essentials, but neither the volume figure nor the dimensions guarantee that a particular phone, wallet, or other item will fit. Compare the bag’s measurements with your belongings if space is tight.

#1 Best Overall
Choose more capacity when you need to carry more
Patagonia lists its Black Hole Waist Pack at 5L and includes stretch bottle pockets and side compression straps. Those features make it the more explicitly outdoor-oriented option among these three examples. Its listed dimensions are also larger, so consider whether that bulk suits your intended activity and how you prefer to wear a pack.
What published testing can—and cannot—tell you
Travel + Leisure says its 2026 fanny-pack evaluation considered “quality, capacity, ease of use, fit, and versatility,” and reports evaluating 26 packs over several years. It names Osprey Waist Pack as best overall, JanSport Fanny Pack as best value, Eastpak Fanny Pack as best lightweight, and Lululemon Everywhere Belt Bag as most compact. Those are Travel + Leisure’s findings, not tests conducted for this article: Travel + Leisure’s fanny-pack coverage.

In a separate 2026 travel-purse roundup, Travel + Leisure says it tested over 100 purses and names the Lululemon Everywhere Belt Bag its best belt bag. That count belongs to the purse article and should not be added to the fanny-pack figure: Travel + Leisure’s travel-purse coverage.

Prices and stock can change, and the product specifications above do not establish current prices.
