India collected ₹2,03,521 crore in gross Goods and Services Tax (GST) in September 2026, a 14.7% increase from ₹1,77,365 crore in September 2025. The Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN) published the figures on October 1, 2026, and says they are provisional.

How much GST did India collect in September 2026?

Gross GST collection was ₹2,03,521 crore, commonly rounded to ₹2.04 lakh crore. Gross collection is the amount before refunds are deducted. GSTN’s report compares the September 2026 total with ₹1,77,365 crore in September 2025.

Where did the collection growth come from?

GSTN divides gross receipts into domestic and import GST. Import GST grew faster year on year, although the published totals alone do not establish why either component changed.

Measure September 2026 September 2025 Year-on-year change
Gross domestic GST ₹1,37,996 crore ₹1,25,334 crore +10.1%
Gross import GST ₹65,525 crore ₹52,031 crore +25.9%
Total gross GST ₹2,03,521 crore ₹1,77,365 crore +14.7%

The import component’s higher growth rate describes the reported comparison; it does not, by itself, show whether imports, prices, exchange rates, or another factor caused the increase.

What was the net GST collection after refunds?

GSTN reported ₹27,001 crore in refunds for September 2026, 3.0% below the ₹27,848 crore reported for September 2025. After refunds, net GST revenue was ₹1,76,520 crore, up 18.1% from ₹1,49,517 crore a year earlier. The net growth rate is higher than the gross rate in part alongside the year-on-year decline in refunds; these are different measures, not competing estimates of one total.

The report also gives net domestic revenue of ₹1,24,491 crore, up 13.5%, and net customs revenue of ₹52,028 crore, up 30.8%.

How did collections compare across April to September?

For April–September 2026, gross GST totalled ₹12,46,278 crore, an 11.6% increase from ₹11,17,088 crore in April–September 2025. Net GST for the six-month period was ₹10,66,116 crore, up 10.4%. These cumulative figures cover six months, so they should not be confused with September’s single-month totals.

Are the September figures final?

No. GSTN labels the published figures provisional and cautions that actual numbers may vary when they are finalised. The reported headline total and its 14.7% year-on-year growth are consistent in the official report and contemporaneous coverage. For component details, the official GSTN table lists CGST at ₹37,762 crore; News On AIR reports ₹37,772 crore, a ₹10 crore discrepancy. The headline total is unaffected by that component difference.
