The figure excludes GST on imports and is not the same as the state’s post-settlement SGST amount.
How much GST did Telangana collect in September 2026?
The state-wise GST revenue table republished by Goodsandservicetax.in reports ₹5,327 crore for Telangana in September 2026, compared with ₹4,512 crore in September 2025—a year-on-year increase of 18%. The table labels this domestic GST and excludes GST on imports. The figures are provisional and may change when finalised. (Goodsandservicetax.in, September 2026 table)
Why are two Telangana GST figures being reported?
They measure different accounting views, so the amounts and growth rates should not be substituted for one another.
- State-wise domestic GST: ₹5,327 crore, up 18% from ₹4,512 crore. This table line excludes GST on imports.
- Post-settlement SGST: ₹4,402 crore, up 14% from ₹3,870 crore in September 2025. This separate measure includes the SGST portion of IGST settled to the state, as reported by DD India/PTI. (DD India/PTI, October 1, 2026)
The 18% headline refers to the state-wise domestic collection line; 14% refers to post-settlement SGST. Each is valid for its own measure.

Why did Telangana GST collections rise 18%?
The available figures establish the size of the year-on-year increase, but they do not identify what caused it in Telangana. They do not isolate the effects of economic activity, consumption, compliance, enforcement or any other factor, so attributing the increase to a particular cause would go beyond the reported evidence.
For national comparisons, DD India/PTI reported that September 2025 was a subdued comparison base during GST rate rationalisation: the changes were announced on September 3, 2025, and took effect on September 22. That context may affect national year-on-year comparisons; it does not establish a specific explanation for Telangana’s rise.

EY India Tax Partner Saurabh Agarwal described growth across several states as broad-based: “The growth in the tax mop-up is broad based with Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, Gujarat and Karnataka each up 16 per cent to 18 per cent.” The comment, reported by DD India/PTI on October 1, 2026, describes state-level growth nationally rather than providing a Telangana-specific causal analysis.

The reported 18% increase is a one-month year-on-year comparison for Telangana’s state-wise domestic GST line. It is not a measure of total tax take, and it does not by itself show why collections changed. A separate April–September post-settlement SGST series rose 18% to ₹26,287 crore from ₹22,231 crore, but that cumulative measure should not be read as the same series as the September state-wise figure.
