This week’s crypto headlines were a reported Bitcoin move above $87,000 on October 2, a new XRPL lending amendment entering validator voting, and Shiba Inu’s reported 13.5% gain for September. The developments have different status: a dated market-price report, a protocol proposal still subject to a vote, and a completed monthly return attributed to CryptoRank.
What happened in crypto this week?
| Development | Timing | What is reported | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bitcoin (BTC) | October 2, 2026 | U.Today reported BTC rose above $87,000 after a weaker-than-expected U.S. jobs report. | A dated price report; not a current quote. |
| XRPL lending | September 30, 2026 | U.Today reported RippleX opened the LendingProtocolV1_1 amendment for validator voting. | Proposal and voting stage, not a live lending feature. |
| Shiba Inu (SHIB) | September 2026 | U.Today, citing CryptoRank, reported a 13.5% monthly gain. | Completed monthly performance, attributed to the cited data source. |
Why did Bitcoin move above $87,000?
U.Today reported that BTC had already moved above $85,000 on September 30 following softer inflation data, then rose above $87,000 on October 2. The article linked the October move to a weak U.S. jobs report: nonfarm payrolls reportedly increased by 29,000, compared with analyst expectations of 84,000–90,000, while unemployment was reported at 4.2%. U.Today said the release reduced expectations of another Federal Reserve rate hike that month. That is a reported market explanation, not proof that the jobs figures alone caused the price move.
Keep the October 2 move separate from earlier September price snapshots. A September 29 Crypto.com roundup said BTC had neared $87,000 on September 21, then traded around $83,000–$84,000 at September’s end. The roundup also reported $2.4 billion in weekly U.S. spot Bitcoin ETF inflows through September 25. These are distinct dates and reporting snapshots, not one continuous price reading. The roundup discussed a possible Federal Reserve rate decision on October 28 and upcoming data releases; those were forward-looking items in that September 29 account, not confirmed outcomes.
What does Ripple’s XRPL lending vote mean?
According to U.Today, RippleX opened the LendingProtocolV1_1 amendment to validator voting on September 30. The reported design uses closed-ended lending vaults and cash-basis accounting. The vote means the amendment is being considered; it does not mean XRPL lending has launched.
#1 Best Overall
U.Today reported that activation would require all of the following:
- More than 80% support from trusted validators for two weeks.
- Activation of the original LendingProtocol amendment.
- Activation of the SingleAssetVault amendment.
The available reporting does not independently establish the amendment’s current vote tally or activation status. Treat it as a proposal with stated dependencies unless an official XRPL amendment tracker confirms a later change.

How strong was SHIB’s September?
U.Today reported that SHIB gained 13.5% in September, calling it the token’s strongest monthly performance of 2026, and attributed the return to CryptoRank. The same account placed SHIB near $0.00000507 at the start of September and near a monthly high of $0.00000625. These are reported historical figures, not current prices.
U.Today also reported a daily golden cross on October 2, described as the first in almost two years, and 1,693,365 on-chain holders during September. The report does not provide the underlying calculation or methodology for these figures, so they should be understood as article-reported metrics rather than independently verified measures. A monthly gain and a chart signal do not establish what SHIB will do next.

How to read this week’s headlines
- Separate event dates: the October 2 BTC report is not the same event as BTC nearing $87,000 on September 21.
- Distinguish proposal from launch: XRPL validator voting is a governance step, subject to thresholds and prerequisite amendments.
- Keep performance in context: SHIB’s 13.5% figure describes September as reported by U.Today citing CryptoRank; it is not a forward-looking signal.
- Do not treat the reported market explanation as certainty: U.Today connected the BTC move to labor-market data and interest-rate expectations, but the reporting does not prove a single cause.
