The company’s common shares trade under MFIC. The latest quote captured here, $8.62 at the October 2, 2026 Nasdaq close, is for MFIC common stock; a current MFICL price was not established. The distinction matters: the notes and shares are different securities with different payment terms and risks.
What is MFICL?
MidCap Financial Investment Corporation is an externally managed business development company (BDC) that provides senior debt financing to middle-market companies. Its stated objective is to generate current income and, to a lesser extent, capital appreciation. It primarily invests in senior secured loans originated by MidCap Financial; Apollo Investment Management, L.P., an Apollo affiliate, is its investment adviser. The issuer describes its business and investor information on its website.
The SEC identifies two distinct Nasdaq Global Select Market securities: common stock under MFIC and 8.00% notes due 2028 under MFICL. Calling MFICL “stock” is common shorthand in searches, but it is a debt security, not the company’s common equity. Investors generally transact through a broker or the transfer agent, as the issuer’s FAQ explains. SEC company filings
MFICL vs. MFIC: what is different?
| Feature | MFICL | MFIC |
|---|---|---|
| Security type | 8.00% notes due 2028 | Common stock |
| Income terms | 8.00% coupon; full payment schedule and other note terms not established here | Board-declared distributions; future amounts and continuation are not assured |
| Current price in the sources cited | Not stated; a current MFICL quote was not established | $8.62 at the October 2, 2026, 4:00 p.m. EDT market close, down $0.12 (1.37%) |
| Yield, liquidity and relative repayment risk | Not stated | Not stated |
Do not use the MFIC share price as a proxy for MFICL’s market price or yield. A note’s coupon is not the same as its market yield: yield depends on the note’s trading price and payment terms. The available information establishes the notes’ identity and coupon, but not a current quote, yield, trading liquidity, or complete terms. SEC company filings

Latest reported results: income rose, NAV fell
For the quarter ended June 30, 2026, MFIC reported net investment income of $0.40 per share, compared with $0.38 per share in the quarter ended March 31, 2026. Net asset value (NAV) was $13.37 per share on June 30, down from $13.82 on March 31—a 3.2% decrease. The company attributed the decline to portfolio losses driven by credit-related weakness concentrated in a limited number of positions. Income above the dividend and share repurchases below NAV partly offset those losses. NAV is the value of assets less liabilities, expressed per common share; it is not a promised sale price for the stock. Company earnings release
Portfolio and leverage at June 30, 2026
- Investment portfolio fair value: $2.77 billion.
- Portfolio companies: 229.
- Of direct-origination portfolio debt, 97% was first lien and 100% was floating rate. These percentages apply to the direct-origination debt portfolio, not necessarily every asset.
- Net leverage: 1.54x.
These are company-reported figures for the quarter ended June 30, 2026. Leverage can amplify the effect of portfolio gains and losses and makes financing conditions relevant alongside borrower credit quality. Company earnings release

Dividend: the latest declaration is not a guarantee
On August 5, 2026, the board declared a $0.31 per-share quarterly dividend, payable September 24 to holders of record September 8. The company said there is no assurance that the board will continue declaring a base dividend of $0.31 per share. A declaration for one quarter does not establish future distributions or make them guaranteed. Company earnings release
Other notable June-quarter capital allocation
During the quarter, MFIC repurchased 2,755,221 shares at a weighted average price of $11.58, spending $31.9 million and using the capacity then available under its repurchase program. Those figures describe the company’s repurchases during that period; they are not a current offer to buy shares or an indication of today’s market price. Company earnings release

What to watch in future MFIC news
- Credit performance: monitor reported non-accruals, realized and unrealized losses, and changes in the value of loans. The latest release attributed the NAV decline to credit weakness in a limited number of positions.
- NAV and share price: compare later NAV reports with the common-stock market price, while recognizing they are different measures.
- Income and distributions: review net investment income alongside declared dividends, and check each new board declaration rather than assuming the amount recurs.
- Leverage and funding: track leverage and financing conditions because they affect the company’s capacity to absorb losses and make investments.
- Security identity: verify whether a quote or headline refers to MFIC common stock or MFICL notes before interpreting price moves or income.
In an August 6, 2026 earnings release, CEO and Executive Chairman Tanner Powell characterized the quarter’s net loss as reflecting “credit weakness in a limited number of positions.” That is management’s explanation, not an independent assessment. He also said future capital-allocation decisions would depend on leverage and market conditions. Company earnings release
