Sage announced on October 1, 2026, that it acquired Paperless Environments, a long-standing Sage partner specializing in construction accounts-payable automation, document workflows, and subcontractor compliance. Sage says existing Paperless customers and integrations will continue to be supported, with no immediate change to how customers use the products or work with Sage. The announcement does not disclose the purchase price.
What Paperless Environments does
Paperless provides software for construction companies to capture, route, review, and approve project paperwork. Its workflows connect finance teams processing invoices with project managers and field staff handling job records and subcontractor documentation.
- Accounts payable: Captures invoices and checks invoice information against ERP data and purchasing requirements.
- Project documents: Routes records to authorized reviewers for review and approval.
- Subcontractor compliance: Manages compliance documents required from subcontractors.
- Jobsite workflows: Mobile capabilities let field teams submit receipts, images, and forms, while authorized project managers can review documents and approve work away from the office.
Sage describes these capabilities as a way to connect finance, project, and field workflows. Its announcement does not provide measured results for time saved, reduced manual work, or faster payments.
Why Sage acquired Paperless
Sage presents the deal as an investment in its construction offering: bringing document and workflow capabilities closer to the accounting and project systems construction firms use. Sage executive Dan Miller said, “Contractors should not have to piece together critical information from across their finance, project and field teams.”

The announcement also cites the 2026 Construction Hiring and Business Outlook: Sage and the Associated General Contractors of America report that 61% of U.S. construction firms were using AI or planning to increase investment in it during 2026, compared with 44% in 2025. That industry statistic offers context for Sage’s technology investment; it is not a claim that Paperless itself uses AI or delivers a particular AI capability.
Which ERP systems work with Paperless
Sage names three of its construction products and says Paperless also integrates with non-Sage ERP systems. Sage cautions that integration functionality varies by product; the announcement does not provide a feature-by-feature comparison.

For a business evaluating fit, the practical question is whether its particular ERP connection covers the workflows it needs—such as invoice processing, project-document routing, compliance tracking, or mobile jobsite submissions. Sage’s announcement does not establish that every function is available in every integration.
What the deal means for existing Paperless customers
Sage says it will continue supporting current Paperless customers and integrations, with no immediate change to product use or customer relationships. The statement describes the immediate position; it does not specify a longer-term product roadmap or rule out future changes.

Sage’s announcement gives two different company-reported customer counts. Its main transaction text says Paperless has more than 1,400 customers in the United States, Canada, and Australia. A separate company-background section says it works with over 2,000 customers across the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. The announcement does not reconcile the figures, so neither should be treated as a single definitive count.

Sage’s acquisition announcement and CPA Practice Advisor’s October 1, 2026 coverage do not disclose the transaction’s financial terms. The longer-term integration roadmap is also unspecified: Sage describes deeper integration with Sage Intacct Construction as an opportunity, without announcing a delivery date or completed expansion. Beyond its assurance of continued current support and no immediate customer-facing change, Sage has not detailed future product or service changes.

CPA Practice Advisor also notes that Sage acquired Bangert in August 2026, another transaction in Sage’s construction-software activity. That earlier deal is context for Sage’s broader investment pattern, but it does not establish how Paperless products will change.
