The White House announced a one-time $90 payment for more than 20 million Medicare Part B enrollees, intended to help pay Part B premiums. Most eligible people are supposed to receive a direct deposit, not a paper check. The administration announced an early-October delivery window, but the available reporting does not independently confirm that payments have been distributed.
What the $90 Medicare payment is
The White House’s October 2, 2026 fact sheet describes a one-time payment of $90 per person for more than 20 million enrollees, intended to help with Medicare Part B premiums. It is not a recurring monthly increase, a permanent reduction in premiums, or a general increase in Medicare benefits.
The White House says the payment will come from the Medicare Improvement Fund. The administration describes that fund as having been established in 2008 and funded by Congress with $2 billion for improvements to Medicare fee-for-service. Those details about the fund’s history and purpose are the White House’s account.
Who the White House says may qualify
The fact sheet says most Medicare Part B enrollees are eligible. It says people whose Part B premiums are already paid by Medicaid and people who pay an Income-Related Monthly Adjustment Amount (IRMAA) are excluded. These are the administration’s stated eligibility rules; the announcement alone does not establish any individual’s eligibility. When and how the payment is supposed to arrive
The White House said most eligible beneficiaries would receive a $90 direct deposit in early October 2026. Those without direct deposit were supposed to receive a paper check by mail at the address registered with Medicare. The announcement describes planned delivery, not confirmed receipt. The Washington Post’s October 3, 2026 report also described the payment as a plan; the reporting available here does not independently verify that distribution has been completed.
If you need to ask about payment status, the White House fact sheet directs beneficiaries to Social Security at 1-800-772-1213. For eligibility questions, it lists Medicare’s number, 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227).
