Robinhood’s Crypto Prediction-Market Forecast: What It Means for Crypto Investors

Vlad Tenev’s reported forecast is about crypto-linked event contracts gaining share in prediction markets. It does not predict crypto prices or make event contracts equivalent to owning crypto.

Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev’s reported forecast is about what people may trade on the platform—not where Bitcoin or other crypto prices are headed. The Motley Fool reported on October 3, 2026, that Tenev said on CNBC on September 21 that sports contracts could become a minority of Robinhood’s prediction-market activity within a few years, with crypto-related contracts already a disproportionately large part of that activity. If you invest in Robinhood, that could matter to its transaction business if the activity persists. It does not mean prediction contracts are crypto ownership, or that crypto prices or spot-trading volumes will rise.

What did Vlad Tenev forecast?

As reported by The Motley Fool on October 3, 2026, Tenev expects crypto-linked event contracts to help drive growth in prediction-market trading, with sports contracts becoming a minority category on Robinhood within a few years. The report also says crypto-related contracts already make up a disproportionately large share of Robinhood’s prediction-market activity.

This is a forecast about the mix of activity in a product category. It is not a precise breakdown of Robinhood’s contracts: the report does not provide a verified Robinhood category-by-category time series or a confirmed denominator for the forecast. Nor does the forecast say that most prediction-market activity will be crypto-related across every platform. Robinhood’s own quarterly release reports an overall contract count, not a detailed category split.

So what does this mean for crypto investors?

If you own Robinhood shares

Prediction markets could become a more important source of activity—and potentially transaction revenue—for Robinhood if usage grows and remains sustained. The company’s second-quarter 2026 results, released July 29, show strong event-contract growth alongside weaker cryptocurrency revenue. That contrast illustrates why prediction-market momentum should not be treated as evidence that Robinhood’s crypto business is growing at the same rate.

If you own Bitcoin or other crypto

The forecast is not a price prediction. More people trading contracts about whether Bitcoin will cross a price or finish above a level does not establish that they are buying Bitcoin, that demand for spot crypto is rising, or that crypto prices will increase. Robinhood’s reported prediction-market activity and crypto trading activity measure different things.

If you are considering an event contract

A crypto-themed event contract is a wager-like financial contract on an outcome defined by its terms, such as whether Bitcoin finishes above a specified price during a 15-minute window. It does not, by itself, give you ownership of Bitcoin or transfer Bitcoin to you if the contract settles in your favor. Read the contract’s outcome, timing, and settlement terms rather than treating it as a substitute for owning the asset.

What Robinhood’s Q2 2026 figures show—and what they do not

Robinhood’s July 29 release reports revenue and activity measures for the quarter ended June 30, 2026. The figures show substantial event-contract activity, but the different units should not be compared as if they were equivalent:

Q2 2026 measure Robinhood-reported figure What it measures
Event-contract revenue $156 million, up more than 10 times year over year Revenue Robinhood reported from event contracts; not the value of contracts traded or customer returns.
Event contracts traded 13.6 billion A count of contracts traded during the quarter, not dollar notional volume.
Cryptocurrency revenue $100 million, down 38% year over year Robinhood’s reported crypto revenue, not the performance of crypto assets.
Crypto notional volume $40 billion: $18 billion on Robinhood’s app and $22 billion on Bitstamp The reported notional value of crypto trading across those two businesses, not revenue or event-contract activity.
Funded customers 28.4 million at June 30, 2026 Robinhood’s reported customer count at quarter-end; it is not a count of prediction-market traders.

In particular, 13.6 billion contracts cannot be compared directly with $40 billion in crypto notional volume: one is a count and the other is a dollar value. Revenue is a third measure. Robinhood CFO Shiv Verma said in the July 29 release that the company had reached new highs across equity, option, and event-contract volumes while continuing to win market share; that statement does not establish that the growth will continue.

Is the shift toward crypto contracts happening elsewhere?

The Motley Fool reported that Kalshi crypto prediction-market volume rose from $337 million in January 2026 to about $7.5 billion in August, citing Kalshi data. For the week ending September 20, 2026, the reported Kalshi mix was 21% sports contracts, 13% Bitcoin contracts, and 62% bundled multi-outcome contracts.

Those figures offer context for changing prediction-market interest, not a direct comparison with Robinhood. They describe Kalshi, use dollar volume rather than Robinhood’s quarterly contract count, and cover a single week for the category percentages. Bundled multi-outcome contracts are a distinct category in that reported breakdown. The numbers therefore do not show Robinhood’s own category mix or establish that crypto contracts will dominate prediction markets overall.

What is changing in Robinhood’s prediction-market infrastructure?

Venue relationships matter because prediction-market contracts are offered and processed through exchanges and clearing arrangements. Robinhood’s Q2 release describes Rothera as a CFTC-licensed exchange and clearinghouse operated through a Robinhood–Susquehanna joint venture; it had processed more than 3.5 billion contracts by the release date.

Axios reported on September 8, 2026, that Robinhood had agreed to route some event contracts through OG.com’s exchange and clearinghouse under a multi-year arrangement. The report also said Robinhood continued routing contracts through Kalshi, ForecastEX, and Rothera. The deal signals that Robinhood is expanding its venue arrangements; it does not by itself confirm future trading growth or resolve regulatory questions.

What risks should you keep in view?

  • A forecast is not a guarantee. Tenev’s reported view describes an expected change over a multi-year horizon. Actual customer interest, contract availability, and revenue can differ.
  • Trading activity is not investment performance. Rising contract counts or volume do not show that customers are profitable or that the underlying crypto assets are appreciating.
  • Platform revenue and asset exposure differ. Robinhood shareholders have exposure to the company’s business, which includes multiple products and revenue sources. Holding a crypto asset exposes an investor to that asset’s price movements. Neither exposure is interchangeable with a prediction contract.
  • Regulation remains an important uncertainty. Axios described federal derivatives regulation and state gaming oversight as an unresolved tension in its September 8 report, including the possibility of a Supreme Court case. That is the reported posture at that date, not a definitive statement of the law today.
