More Amazon Prime Users May Qualify for Settlement Refunds: Do You?

Some U.S. Amazon Prime customers may qualify for automatic settlement refunds despite the passed claims deadline. Eligibility depends on enrollment or failed cancellation, dates, benefit use, and Amazon’s records.

More U.S. Amazon Prime members may qualify for a refund under the FTC’s expanded settlement order. You may be eligible if you signed up through one of the challenged enrollment flows—or tried and failed to cancel online—between June 23, 2019, and June 23, 2025, and used no more than 20 Prime benefits in any 12-month period after enrolling. The claim-form deadline has passed, but some eligible people may still receive automatic payments; Amazon’s records determine individual eligibility.

Who may qualify for an Amazon Prime settlement refund?

The FTC’s current criteria cover U.S. Prime customers who meet the relevant enrollment or cancellation test, date window, and benefit-use limit. You may qualify if all of the following apply:

  • You were an Amazon Prime customer in the United States.
  • Between June 23, 2019, and June 23, 2025, you either signed up through a challenged enrollment flow or tried to cancel Prime through the online cancellation flow but could not.
  • After enrolling, you used no more than 20 Prime benefits in any 12-month period.

The FTC names four challenged enrollment flows: the universal Prime decision page, shipping selection page, single-page checkout, and Prime Video enrollment flow. Prime benefits include offerings such as Prime Music and Prime Video. See the FTC’s Amazon Refunds page for its current eligibility summary.

These public criteria cannot confirm whether a particular account qualifies. Amazon’s records are used to determine how someone enrolled or attempted to cancel, how many benefits they used, whether they have already been paid, and whether a payment is subject to a holdback.

Has the claims deadline passed?

Yes. The last day to submit the claims form was July 27, 2026. Missing the deadline does not necessarily rule out a payment: under the revised order, certain people Amazon identifies in its records may be paid automatically even if they did not submit a claim or submitted an invalid one, if they meet the order’s criteria, have not already been paid, and are not subject to a holdback. The September 2026 court order sets out these payment arrangements.

What changed in the expanded settlement?

The FTC’s September 2026 announcement describes a settlement totaling $2.5 billion: up to $1.5 billion for consumer redress and a $1 billion civil penalty. The agency said Amazon had issued more than $845 million in redress payments as of September 2026. The revised order expands who can receive payments and raises the maximum total payment for an eligible person from $51 to $200, including any earlier payment.

The earlier $51 cap described the first payment phase; it is not the current maximum. The expanded maximum is not a guaranteed payment amount. The FTC’s September 2026 announcement quotes Christopher Mufarrige, Director of the FTC’s Bureau of Consumer Protection: “The revised order will ensure more consumers who were harmed by Amazon’s deceptive enrollment and cancellation practices benefit from the FTC’s historic settlement.”

Additional payments for people who used 11–20 benefits

The revised order provides for automatic payments to potentially eligible people in the 11–20-benefit band beginning October 1, 2026, excluding people who were previously paid. The order also describes payments for certain claims-process eligible people, including some people identified by Amazon who filed no claim or an invalid claim.

Possible later payments

The order allows for a potential pro-rata distribution of remaining funds to people who already accepted payments. If the specified conditions are met, payments in that round are to begin by the end of April 2027. The amount, and whether that distribution occurs, depends on total accepted payments. The FTC says eligible consumers should receive a refund by April 2027; an individual’s total payment will not exceed $200, including earlier payments.

Do you need to file anything now?

No current claim action is required. The FTC says eligible consumers do not need to file another claim, respond to a notice, or complete forms. Amazon will send a check or an electronic payment through PayPal or Venmo. Accept a payment within 60 days of issue or it expires. Details and updates are on the FTC’s Amazon Refunds page.

How to avoid refund scams

The FTC says it is not contacting people about the Amazon refunds. Neither the FTC nor Amazon will ask you to pay money to get a refund. Do not pay anyone who claims they can unlock a payment or guarantee that you will receive one. For questions, use the FTC refund page and the official settlement administrator contact information listed there.
